The display on my friend's 8520 seems to be very low resolution, with washed out colours, and poor quality icons & text.
I have included a couple of very blurry shots from my 8520, and hopefully they will give you an idea of the problem. (sorry for quality)
I got a replacement OEM LCD (which turned out to be used), but this didn't cure it.

Dude, your friend I think may have inverted his colors somwhere in his settings. Possibly someone was playing around with his phone. I did the same thing to but now I can't find where on the phone I did this. Its similar settings sepia and inverted one finds on the camera. This together with the theme makes it blur.

Try this:

Go to options--->advanced options--->accessibilty--> color contrast.

At color contrast set to normal and remember to save.

Dude, was the 8520 ever dropped or did it get wet?

My BB 8520 has same problem.
My charger fell on the side of the screen and it cracked the lcd on other side. I changed it and the new one has over contrast. I replaced the new LCD with another. Even then I have the same issue.

Could there be any problem with the software?

Is the phone irreparable??

i think u phone`s display LCD FCC not connect, u can open the housing,then re-connect it.
