Default Can you query the device software versions from the BES server?

Please Login to Remove!

Is there a way to see from the BES server or the database what version of device software all the blackberry devices that are on the BES server is at?

I need to find out whether the device versions are above v.4.0.x.x...

Thanks!

I dont know if you can see that information from the BES server, but you can from the database. Try BerryStats.

I used the Blackberry Handheld Configuration tool do accomplish this task.

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Management

Open the file called "hhcfgw32.exe" and then click on "Handhelds". This will show you the versions!

Just FYI, it only registers the version if a) your BES is 4.0+ -and- b) your users' handhelds are 4.0+ and have completed an Enterprise Activation. If your BES is 4.0+ and some of the users aren't showing up, ask them to do the following:

- Go to Messages
- Click on the trackwheel and choose Compose Email
- For To:, put your (you) Email address
- Scroll to the Body and type "myver" (without the quotations) and push Enter or the Space Bar

The above should automatically convert "myver" to something like 7100/4.1.0.256. Tell them to continue on through the process and send you the email. This is a little more precise than doing a Help > About or having to call them or walk over to them, imo. Of course, there is room for user-error, as well.

i added the BerryStats view to our SQL database. This allows me to import the BerryStats view in Microsoft Excel (data -> import external data) and use Excel's Autofilter. Works perfect for these kinds of tasks, I can do everything from Excel without having to use the crappy BlackBerry Managers export function.

You can even set the autofilter to display only 7290 devices of which the software version starts with 4.0. BerryStats is a must have.

Default Help Me! Screen

You can also view the "Help Me!" screen on the device by hitting Alt/CAP/H. This will give you a good snapshot of the device with more information than myver.
