Is there a key combination for a soft reset on a Pearl without taking out the battery?

I'm beside myself trying to imagine why there is no menu option somewhere to reboot this phone! Yeah, it's been a week since my last reboot, but voice dialing acted up on me today and I needed to peel the skin off my phone, screw with the battery door... all in order to reboot. Please, someone, take a minute to write an app to do this and I'll buy it.

There is, I think the Power off button is hidden by default. Just Do um.. organize apps and Show all Icons and it'll be there.

Atleast it was on my Pearl;
O2 latest update with Today Plus theme.

I push the menu button a bunch of times until my phone gets a 507 error and asks if I want to do a reset.

This bug was fixed with the O2 software release... it doesn't give that error if you press that button a number of times with the O2 software...

No, but some programs will "reset" if you power down the phone by holding down the red phone key. E.g., I had a video freeze to where no keys would work. The screen was frozen. Powered down and then up, phone worked again.

But powering down was so iffy on fixing crashes, I don't bother. I just do the battery reset.

And I'm not sure, but I don't think the manual clearly says anything about "soft resets." Far as I know there also is not one of those tiny pinhole spots to use a needle to reset [as there are on many PDA's].

The only reset I am aware of is removing the battery.

Well, I looked in the 242 page Pearl manual. The ONLY place "reset" is mentioned is in the battery section and it simply says to remove the battery to reset the device. And that is buried on page 203 of the manual.

I think that is somewhat bizarre and negligent considering how often the question comes up, how often people are resetting and how often we get crashes or some other problem [e.g., my media sound stopped working, had to reset the device].

The reset I'm looking for is the one which causes the OS to reload. This reset fixes a number of ills - blackberrys are very reliable, but on the once or twice a week chance that I want to refresh the OS, I'd like to do it without futzing with the batter door which we all know is flimsy as hell...

I can't remember the last time I had to reset my pearl. beyond deleting a program here or there and then it does it itself. and I'm sure you don't want to stock up on apps to delete.

and SF, I do believe you know what you are talking about - just look at that face! who couldn't trust that face?

The "hard reset" is to take out the battery, wait a few seconds and put it back in. A "soft reset" used to be done by holding down "Alt - Caps Lock - Del" or "Alt - Caps Lock - Backspace" depending on your model. The Power button that you hold down doesn't do this. I just wanted to confirm that I think this model Blackberry doesn't have a key combination like that. Luckily, it still has "Alt - Escape" (for switching between running apps which I use all the time).

The reason I need it is that I have an application that stops getting email occasionally and a "soft reset" would fix it. For now, I have to pull out the battery to restart and I don't want to wreak the battery cover, as it is a little flimsy.

I thought it was a simple question and the first response was the simple answer, I think I do appreciate the responses.

EDIT: WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T STICK ANYTHING IN THE SMALL HOLE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PHONE. I previously suggested this but I was not aware that this was the microphone (thanks Dnepr98) and would hate for someone to try this and damage their phone. I would have never thought that little thing was the mic hole. I guess it makes sense though since the phone is too short to really reach the mouth - the hole would have to be on the bottom to be targeted at the mouth area. Oh well. So much for that idea.

That hole... is the microfone, you can try sticking in whatever you want there (or whatever you can fit in there) but it will not reset the phone!
