Elation!!!!!!........ I found a fix.
I have a 7290 that was in a loop for weeks. When all else fails...follow the directions. There is an instruction about what to do when JL CMDR doesn't work. I tried it and was able to stop the loop and program the 7290. Well after this I thought I would try this on my 7280 with the 507 problem. It worked.. So, thanks to instructions, the program JL CMDR, and this forum I now have two almost dead Berries back to life.

Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and try it again.

Use the link below. Take the instructions as if you've already wiped the device with JL_Cmder. You'll need to install the OS to your PC in order to load the OS back to the device.

Are you getting any errors during the install of the OS? Doesn't sound like the software is getting from the PC to the handheld.

You have to reload the OS back onto your 8310.

Follow these instructions -> http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...languages.html to the letter and the OS will be reloaded.

Default 7100 with 507 error

It appears to mean corrupt or missing application software on device.

To fix:

I downloaded the 7100 handset software from the Rim site, and installed.
When I connected my device, it recognised it and allowed me to reinstall everything.

After it had wiped the previous applications and resinstalled the jvm and system software, the device briefly flashed up 507 again before the applications started installing.

After the applications had installed, the device went into hourglass mode for about 20 minutes but eventually it came up fine.

This leads me to believe that the 507 error message is about the Rim applications being corrupt or missing rather than the system software.

Default 7280 Error Code 507

I have a BB 7310 with 507 error code after unsuccessful update of OS (connection died halfway). Tried several hours re-installing different versions of Device Manager and Desktop Manager, using different computers, etc.

Finally, success! The key thing is to use JL_Cmder software (download from this forum) to wipe the OS. It doesn't matter if Desktop Manager says device not connected before update.

507 error code DOES NOT mean the OS is wiped out. As soon as the WIPE command is used on JL_Cmder, my BB updated immediately.

Very, very happy

The OS is still there with 507 error but has been rendered completely unusable and needs to re reloaded. JL_Cmder simply wipes the device to a 507. If you already have 507 all you have to do is reload the OS using Loader.exe.
