Default Latest OS: 8110 4.5.0.81 / 4.5.0.55 (Multilanguage)

Updateservice
Scroll down to Blackberry Firmware and find the 8110.

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8110:

1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 or higher installed.
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

To find previous versions of the OS for this device, click http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html

Note: Preloaded Wallpapers and custom folder icons are not included in this release.

Seems to be much more stable than 4.5.0.37 and much faster than 4.3. No problems on my 8110 so far. I haven't tested the GPS yet, but I'll post an update when I do.

After 12 hours of usage my file free has dropped by about 0.8 MB. GPS works perfectly.

Still getting strange black squares to the left of the timestamps in SMS messages. No other problems.

So far after about 24 hours of use, the only issue I can find is that the preloaded wallpapers are missing. The camera, Gmail, AT&T Navigator, Rove SSH, Rove Mobile Admin, and Opera Mini are all working normally. Compared to the laggy first Vodafone release of 4.5, this one is quite fast and I no longer have the problem with standby not working. Memory usage appears to be on par with 4.3 so far.

Each release seems to be a big improvement! Once AT&T's official 4.5 release arrives it should be rock solid. I can't wait!

There is a sticky in the Media Center Forum for adding the wallpapers if you just have to have them.

Neither Google Maps or JiveTalk or Blackberry Maps work for me after install? Anyone else have this? How do I downgrade to the previous OS?

Did you install Documents To Go? Often, JiveTalk will throw a java error if Docs To Go isn't installed.

As for BBMaps, this requires a service book now. So, if you don't get the service book you won't get BBMaps.

Today my phone randomly rebooted itself, and since then the intermittent loss of standby mode has come back. Weeee, I can't wait for the final release from AT&T. :D

So far its already performing much better than .44. I am actually getting push email again and not just when I happen to do something that lets the phone know its online.

I have noticed something that started with .44 that wasnt in .37 and continues in .55. When I get a voice mail, the notification says Network Notification (_@) then has a line and below that it tells me how many voice mail messages I have waiting. What is with the (_@) and is anyone else seeing that?

That is just a small annoyance to deal with and I am certainly glad to have my push email back.

I tried to load this update and fried my Pearl. Before loading I tried to backup my data using desktop manager. Backup process made it about 80% of the way and then I got an error message indicating that the backup didn't finish. I should have took that as a sign but tried to load the updated OS anyway. Sure enough after about 30 minutes everything disconnected and I got the dreaded black screen and flashing red battery light. Fortunately I had only had my 8110 for a few weeks so AT&T gave me a new one. On the off chance that there was a problem with the Pearl, I tried the backup again, with the same result. No way I'm taking a chance of frying Pearl #2.

Question is whether anyone has encountered something similar and if so, how to solve.

Thanx.

Yes, myself and at least one other user have had exactly the same problem with the 4.5 upgrade on the 8110. Here is what I was able to do to break the power cycling.

1) Deleted version 4.5 from the computer
2) Reloaded 4.3 to the computer
3) Started Desktop Manager
4) Took out the battery
5) Selected Options>Connection Settings
6) Plugged USB into BB
7) Hit detect. As soon as it found the USB, I immediately hit OK
8) Went to App Loader, selected OS applications and started the process
9) When it got to load JVM and system software, the BB turned on with a 507 error
10) Put battery back in, pulled the USB cord and exited Desktop Manager
11) Restarted DM, plugged BB in and it reloaded 4.3

For some reason, this pops it out of the cycling mode and gives you a 507, which you can at least work with. So does it seem there is a problem with this software and some at&t 8110s?

Thankfully, I didn't have a problem with the backup portion. Mine started powercycling when it was loading on the new OS and waiting for the device to initialize.

Shawnc, are you running any 3rd party apps? It has been suggested that maybe they could be a cause. At the time of the backup, I had installed at&t navigator, Viigo, and Where. Just wondering if you had any of the same and if perhaps that could be a common link as to why our phones crapped out.

Hey Christopher,

Thanx for the thorough response. I do have a 3rd party app (Dictionary/Thesaurus). I thought that might be a part of the problem. Maybe I'll uninstall it and see if I get through the backup. If so, I may take the plunge again.

Again, thanx!

UPDATE - Just removed the app and the backup worked flawlessly. Do I take the plunge again. If I bomb another Pearl. I'll feel like such a sucker.

OK well after about 24 hours or so it went right back to the same issues as before.... mail wouldn't show up unless I actually did something on the device, then it would just pour in and many times hours after I had already gotten it on my computer.

Now I have another issue, the battery wont charge. I had it plugged in all night and it showed less battery this morning than last night. I thought maybe it was just a fluke and had to get to work where I figured I would plug it in and charge it up, well its a no go here as well. I think I am going to roll back to the previous version for now.

I've been reading on other boards as well that this OS package is a no go on at&t. Lots of people having problems. Wierd.
