Just got a BB 8830 for my dad and a 8130 for my self and my 8130 had a voice recorder but the 8830 does not. My dad uses the voice record function quite often and will be ticked that I talked him into the BB's over the palms(Probably a dirty word on here but you all understand) if we cant get a Voice Recorder on it. Alltel told us they both have a voice recorder on them but they dont.

How or where can i get a voice recorder for the 8830?

the much rumored 4.5 is said to include this. it is a function of the OS, your device has 4.3 and his does not, anything 4.3 and higher is supposed to include this feature. have him exchange his device for the 8130 if he wants the voice recorder.

When will the new OS be available for the 8830?

Is their some 3rd party Voice Recorder for them?

no word on when/if the OS will be released. only notification will be when its announced. as for third party apps, i havent checked, but try to search the aftermarket software section of this site.

Go to Shapeservices and download the trial for VR+ Voice Recorder. I guarantee you'll pay the $24.95 to keep it. I LOVE this app. I, too, was a little disappointed that the 8830 lacked a voice recorder, but it is a fairly straightforward "business" model, sans the consumer bells and whistles most of us wouldn't mind having (e.g. camera, video player).

VR+ is awesome. Does not disappoint!! You can e-mail voice messages to people in MP3 format. Very cool.

It has "Send Voice Note" which is crap in my opinion. You can only send short (1min?) MMS messages. No storing, no other options to send. Totally useless crap.

I've been using vNotes from Dollars 5 Complete, and it works well. I thought that I'd help out the community by buying this, because it seemed certain that within a few days of buying it, OS 4.5 would be released, making the purchase pointless.

I wonder if I use one of the apps mentioned above, can I then take the recording and make it a ringer? I'd like to record my kids saying something like "daddy, your phone is ringing" and make that the ringer......

The best and I believe only way to do this is with the voicenote feature in the blackberry messenger application. You can send a voicenote to yourself by adding yourself to your contacts in blackberry messenger and hit the menu key then record whatever you would like. You then can save that as a ringtone. Hope this helps!

I'd try that, if I hadn't already removed bb messenger to save some space. Never used the app...

I can't find this (voice note) on my 8830? Any reason it would be gone?

Try hitting menu and "Show All" It may have been hidden. Other possiblity is Verizon didnt want you to have it. But i dunno.

Yea, I tried the show-all and couldn't find it there either. Hmmm, Is it removed on the latest version (.176?)
