I had already been to that AT&T site. Seems like most of their feedback is always negative. If you go over to the BB AT&T board, it too has negatives about the 8310. I think these are mainly new users who just have a tough time understanding the technology.

Possibly, but it sure seems like alot of people are complaining about the TILT locking up or having other OS problems more so than the 8310...

Go sew your wild oats.
Just be ready to spend the money on a BB when you tire of the Tilt.

A $99 turd is not a bargain, it's a turd. There's nothing you can do to a turd to make it not a turd.

nostalgiaguru, OK, now I understand the interest in WiFi ... as I alluded to before, where I live and work, WiFi isn't terribly useful to me as it's not readily available as it is say on a college campus.
So, let me ask you this: If you used PPC before what made you decide to try BlackBerry in the first place? What's made you stick with it?
If you ask me, I think the Curve would make you quite happy, despite lacking a few of the things you're looking for ... I've not tried streaming stuff on my Curve, well, frankly because I'm lazy. But it does everything else you want pretty well. I honestly can not conceive of using a WM device daily after using a Curve or a BlackBerry in general.
Given your desired usage I would say that if you do decide to try the Tilt get yourself some extra chargers for the car and the office. It would suck to be without a phone because your battery died streaming XM and you're not near a charger. That is one complaint I have across the board with WM devices. Not a one came close to the battery life I get with my BB.
Now, I understand that battery life is not of concern to everyone, so ignore my complaint if that's the case and just get extra chargers.
Good luck with your decision making process. I know it's hard when you have to pick one phone and get it right. But, I do believe at&t has a 30 day return policy and allows one exchange ... an FYI just in case.

I had a tilt, this was after 4 years of win-mo. I used a friends curve, and thought I'd try one out for myself.
Tilt was on ebay in a week. I'll never go back to windows.
Something about blackberrys. Once you go black(berry) you never go back.

you can always go to the tilt forums board and ask what they think. Oh thats right there is no tiltforums.com. Number one reason to not get a tilt, you would miss all the great people and helpful advise you would get here.

You "were" a heavy email user.
You "were" a heavy internet surfer.
You've never used a Curve have you?

not sure what you mean - isn't 3G supposed to be better than EDGE?

Thanks, many of you have actually been helpful.
As I have mentioned, I still want to stay BB, always have, so here's what I would surmise:
1) 8310 does video, right?, which my 7130c does not do. 8310 doesn't stream, but since most of the streams I would be interested in require subscriptions, that probably won't pan out any way.
2) Seems like I've read most everywhere that 3G is better than EDGE. Is that not true?
3) I'll miss Wifi, but hey, I'm not using it now. The 8820 doesn't have near the discounts that the Curve and Tilt have, so that is out of the question.
4) I have friends who love their 8525 - isn't the Tilt the next generation?
I'm still leaning towards the 8310, and would appreciate additional practical, meaningful comments (turd-free). I'll probably drop by the AT&T place this afternoon to take a look at both (but will buy on line).

I had the exact same battle a while ago. When the Tilt was first released it was between upgrading my Pearl to a Tilt or the 8310. I ended up getting the Tilt, using it for close to 30 days, and decided I absolutely hated it. Anyway, I ended up taking it back and getting the 8310 because it was crap. Here is what I DIDNT like about the Tilt:
1. Battery life sucks horrid. If I was checking email at the same rate I was with my BB, my battery would be close to dead come lunch time. This is heavy usage of the device (near constant email and music).
2. OS is unresponsive. I am used to the BB OS and how snappy it is. When you get using the device, you start to realize you are waiting a second or two for it to do everything. Now, a second or two of waiting doesn't seem like much ... but its a long time when you are on the move and you realize your device of a few years was 10x snappier.
3. Slower typing. I had the 8310 for only a couple of days and realized I was already able to type faster on it than with the Tilt. I think its due to the finger travel and how much your finger has to move around compared to a smaller 8310 keyboard.
4. The novelty of the tilting screen wore off in about a week of heavy usage. At first it was "cool", but after that, it was just "meh".
There are many other reasons I hated the Tilt. Dont waste your time going with the Tilt, then finding out you are going to exchange it for the BB anyway.

Yes but he asked us to talk him out of it so this very well could be a reason. I was just posting more info.

i was thinking the same thing about 1 month ago...got the tilt, hooked it up with BB connect....
LASTED 3 DAYS BEFORE I PRACTICALLY THROUGH THE TILT AGAINST THE WALL!!!
In my opinion, the only thing that the tilt has over the blackberry is that it sold for way more than any blackberry would have on ebay...someone paid over $500 to gain a headache!!

I have sold many tilts and many BBs. The return rate on tilts about 50%
Return rate on BBs 12% approx
#1 reason sited for tilt to difficult to use and set up and OS to slow
Also many are returned for defects such as screen blanking out
#1 reason for BB "its just not for me" they decide to stick with a regular phone

thats a VERY high return rate on those devices. Blackberrys across the board have less than a 3% return rate. And just because I was in retail management too long might want to qualify your customers better

A buddy who works at a local Verizon store said the Pearls were selling "like hotcakes" and that the return rate was very low.
Heck - my wife loves hers, and she never, ever, loved any gadget before.

I thought of one other thing, that is probably a plus for the Curve - I'm currently paying $29.99/month for unlimited BIS/data. I assume if I go to the Curve, that I can maintain my plan. But, would the plan for the Tilt be much higher? I tried to sift through the rates at ATT, but they're very confusing.
