Does anyone know how OR if it's even possible to get the Cell Tower ID using the BlackBerry SDK?
My BlackBerry won't be in until next week so I haven't actually had the time to play around with this. What I'm trying to do is create a simple application that will keep track of the Cell Towers that are in a specific area. That way you can specify the Cell Towers that are near Work, and change the settings on your phone to be work related (like turning the ringer off and vibrate on). I guess you can say it's a GPS application that just deals with changing the settings on your phone and not actually giving you location information.
I don't really care about the specific of the Cell Tower, just a Unique ID that will distinguish it from others.
I'm not sure if it matters or not, but the BlackBerry phone I want to do this on is the 7130c
When I get my BlackBerry in next week I will definatly give that app a try. It is too bad the source code isn't provided, but at least I know it's possible now.
If I am able to make a working version of this application I'll definatly be posting the source code and a downloadable executable on SourceForge so that anyone can take the code and do what they please with it.
The profiles, such as Loud, Vibrate, Normal, Quite, etc... That allow you to save different settings you want on your phone for the different sounds, ring tones, and how loud the different sounds are.
Well, I would like to be able to change this thru code. For example if I created a program that looked at what time it was, say 9AM in the morning on a Monday, well there is a good chance I will be at work at that time, so I would like to change to either the Vibrate or Quite Profile.
Which is what stopping me right now, I can get the Cell IDs but I can't change the profiles yet, since it seems that BlackBerry decided to not include this with in their SDK.
