ATT's BB Pluto
Please Login to Remove!
So I was at my local ATT store today getting my case traded out under warranty and I asked the rep about the BB Bold. (Since I have the curve)...
And quoted me the specs about it and said its been really popular. He's had people come from verzion who purchased the Storm and hated it, decide to come back and get the bold.
I asked him a few more questions about streaming audio and video over the ATT network with the BB's and as a result of a very lengthy conversation he told me that BB is making a new phone called the PLUTO that is supposibly going to be the improvement of the Storm and ATT will get it in the late summer of 2009.
Not sure if its true, but its what I was told today....

hearing that from store reps is the equivalent of you reading it on an online blog. they read it and are repeating it as fact back to their customers. i will almost guarantee you that at&t doesn't have a touchscreen BB in testing. perhaps RIM does (aside from the storm, obviously), but i doubt any carriers do at this point.

If RIM can make a touchscreen BB, and iron out all of the bugs, I would buy it.
Also, why would they rename the 8900 for AT&T? Why wouldn't they just call it the same thing they call it for TMO? That's the only thing that makes me doubt this.

Because it wouldn't be the 8900 - it'd be the 9900 as explained by the article. 9xxx devices are 3G, which the Pluto would be. The 8900 is not 3G. They are two different devices.

Please be 2010... I am eligable for my next upgrade then... But knowing me, I take a long time to change devices. I have had about 3 phones in the last 8 years, because of so many "coming soon" articles, I had the luck of "waiting" till the right time to buy a new device, and this "Pluto" sounds like a perfect upgrade to my Bold. But we'll see what happens...

Ugh, no offense but to me a BB should have a keyboard. Sure, I am a new BB owner, but I am a tech buff, use my berry mainly for fun, rather than work. But I've had AT&T since high school when they were still TDMA only on ATTWS. I could had gotten an iPhone. I am an Apple Fanboy, but I hate touch screen keyboards. Sure, I love the iPod Touch, great for games and stuff, but I hate using it for any emailing.
I've played with the Storm, and it is awful! I love my keyboard.
But, I heard of a new Blackberry, not too sure which network its on, i believe its 8900, but not 100% sure. it looks a lot like bold, but appears to h ave "rubbery" keys, 3 MP cam, and slightly smaller.
Is this the new curve? Will it work for AT&T? Are the keys actually rubber like those small calculators have, or standard plastic.
Is the camera higher quality? B/c higher MP !- higher quality. Is the video cam higher quality than bold? i just invested in the bold now, but the new curve seems very intriguing.

The Storm is an awesome phone but I agree. Everytime I think about a new berry, I think keyboard, and I don't think a berry would be the same without the amazing keyboard they have been known for ever since I can remember.
A hybrid like the magnum or pluto or daffy or whatever they are calling it this week would be something worth looking at though

Possible Pluto photo?
I found this pic on a couple of sites. If the real Pluto is anything like this, I've found my ultimate BlackBerry.

Seems like the bold will be out-of-date within the next year. I definitley don't like this, especially when considering my 2 year contract... Just saying

Touchscreen Bold??
I hope not. I work for AT&T Wireless and I haven't heard anything about the Magnum Pluto, but then, like someone else already said, I'm online getting my info just like everybody else.
I like my Bold, and I like the 3G, and I'm not big on the touchscreen concept either. I agree, a Blackberry should have a keyboard.
I also HAD a Blackberry with Verizon, but I'm fed up with them crippling the phone's hardware... no Wifi, no GPS. It's just plain dumb, and I think they're shooting themselves in the foot by doing that.
