In my initial testing of both fresh EA's and migrations of existing users from the old server, it's going very well. I'm considering not even loading BBDM for new users. For address book I'm using the technique to sync the address book from the client to iNotes (Actions, Sync Address Book).
I've also had luck building my first Software config and pushing it to the handhelds on the 4.1 BES (the DST patch)

There are two options for EA: USB and Wireless. USB is very similar to the 2.2 method of assigning BB to the BES. Wireless EA sometimes is a pain because it relies on coverage, signal, etc. From my reading the preferred method is wireless EA because that process does some things that the USB process doesn't do.
With BES the only need for the Desktop Manager is to perform backup and load software.
