Default First Post - NEED A BLACKBERRY!

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all,

Ive been looking to buy a bb for a while now, but after tons of research, I can't really pinpoint the differences between a few devices, and thought that posting here would be the best idea (to get an understanding from ppl that have used them)

The bb's in mind are the Tour, the 8900, the new curve 8520, and the bold 9000.

The new bold (9700) is out of the question simply because it costs way too much. If it adds anything, my plan would be with rogers wireless.

What are the major differences, and what one is teh best out of them all?

Thanks for all of your help, and i'll be sure to keep you guys updated.

Have you tried initially comparing them on the BB website?

Thanks, but already done that. And the major difference seems to be the cameras/trackball.

I was trying to get a feel about usage, like lags or other problems that could arise with the three.

Best to poke around on the forums for individual devices. Also, go to a store and play with them to get a feel for the keyboards of each.

How we use a device would really be an indication of how it would work for you.

My preference is the 9000, but then I am biased.

from what I can understand, then only major diff between the 9000 and the 8900 is the better camera in the 8900 and a bit more memory in the 9000 (which isnt a big problem, i have an 8gb micro sd card).

Thoughts?

heh. the 8900 has double the memory of the 9000

I'd rule out the 8520, and go with the 8900

Isn't the 8900 only EDGE whereas the 9000 is 3G?

Ya, you're right. I just figured that out. The 8900 doesnt have 3G.

Man, what a let-down. I feel like i'm back to square one.

If i want the bb with the features i want, looks like i might have to fork over the cash for the new bold. And i'd go with the tour but the dealer I'm looking at (thru a corp plan) doesnt carry the tour.

this blows.

Media card doen't expand device memory, btw.

If you're shopping the Bold and Tour yer doin it wrong. Pick the carrier first.

I can't figure this stuff out man. The 8900 lacks 3G, for me thats fricken huge. and the 9000 is an old model with a worse camera. I'd do anything for the 9700 if it wasnt 299$ on a contract.

I think i might just hold off for now.

The camera on any BlackBerry is limited and really not suited to much besides some very casual pictures. There is a difference between models' cameras, but it shouldn't be a dealbreaker.

You could buy the 9700 from wirefly or letstalk for t-mobile and then unlock it.

After talking to some other friends and playing phone tag with rogers, i've decided with the bold. I can grab it for 135$ for an upgrade (no new contract). Now its just a matter of time.

...and now comes the question, silver or black?

What made you finally decide the bold?

And i'd go for black personally. I've been using the bold for well over a year now, and even when the javelin was released i was still happier off with my bold. eh. just me i guess

The bold to me is the best bb out there right now. The new bold has better camera and a little smaller, but for the massive price difference the 9000 is the best bet.

and p.s. i think i might go with silver. everyones got the black one - havnt seen too many ppl carrying around the silver guy.

good choice?

Isn't there a white one out there? I agree that for the money it's the best deal around. Good call.
