Upgraded and answered my own question, letters still double up everywhere using multitap. Sigh, downgraded.

4.2.1.96 Upgrade Question
I have recently upgrade my pearl to the new version. The upgrade went great but I now have a strange annoyance. If I run the AT&T theme if I open up my message or the phone it shows searching for network even though I have coverage and the network works. If i got back to the Home Screen it then shows AT&T for my coverage again. I never actually loose coverage because I still receive email and phone calls. It is just more of an annoyance.

No tether or USB Mass Storage after upgrade
I am a ATT/Cingular Pearl owner, and just recently performed the .96 upgrade. At first I thought that everything was fine and dandy, and things were working perfectly. Then last night, my cable went out, and I tried using the Pearl to tether and connect to the internet. I used the following settings that worked with the .94 Rogers release earlier:
+cgdcont=1,"ip","wap.cingular"
login: wap.cingular.com
pw: CINGULAR1
DIALED: *99***1# OR *99#
The dialup connection would hang on verifying username and password for a bit, and then it would give an error message that server was not responding. I tried every possible combination of the above parameters from the various threads on this forum, but to no avail. I then also noticed, that when my Pearl is connect via USB, and even though I am seeing an extra USB Mass Storage drive in Windows, I cannot access it. Any time I clicked on it, I got the make sure the disk is inserted message.
So, this morning, I "downgraded" to the .94 Rogers release, and tethering started magically working again, and so did the USB drive access. Anybody else on ATT notice similar results? Since the .96 release is actually from ATT, I wonder if they blocked the tethering on it somehow, unless you have the tethering plan.

This has been a known issue with the 4.2.1 OS's.

Two Problems Since Upgrade
I uograded as well and now I have two new problems.
1. Citimobile (banking app) no longer works--it just freezes.
2. The shortcut to switch between suretype and multi-tap (hold #) no longer works.
How can I get a copy of the old OS back (I didn't save a copy). Is there someplace I can download it from?
Thanks.

I'm a new pearl owner and my red pearl came with version 4.2.073, is it worth upgrading? Been reading through this thread and it sounds like there were mix feelings about it.

To answer your second question - they took out the shortcut. I wish they hadn't.

My theory is if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I am running .71. I upgraded my OS only once because people said .71 (or even later OSs) operated faster. I did not notice a difference.

The 4.2.1 media manager SUCKS... why the hell did they switch to a huuuge bloated system by Roxio?
Honestly I want to go back to the previous version of the desktop manager.

8100 TMO Worked great
Upgraded my pearls op system and it works great. It fixed the bluetooth problem I was having (headset kept disconnecting and reconnecting constantly).

True but Roxio Media Manager will do the video conversions for you automatically if necessary when transferring. You no longer need to use mencoder and all the decoders for moving videos to the BB.

Had this exact problem after I upgraded, but it wasn't THIS version, was the previous one they had posted here. It just stopped working, I ended up upgrading it again, and no fix. Had to exchange. I don't think its software related, unless somehow the software perma breaks the earpiece.

Yes I do have auto-retrieval "on", should I have it on "never" or "home only" instead? Thanks!
