Default Where's the AntiSpam software?

Please Login to Remove!

How come there's no antispam programs available that run on the blackberry itself? I'm not about to do redirection w/desktop manager because I can't rely on a PC to always be on and implementing an exchange server/antispam/BES solution is a bit of overkill.

Is it me or has spam been hitting my phone a lot more lately (it comes in through my isp-hosted pop3 company email account).

Any help/comments/recommendations are much appreciated.

You need better filters set up in your isp-hosted pop3 email account. It sounds like you have a spam issue on your pop3 account, not really on the BB.

I've been having the exact same issue. I've been receiving tons of new spam on my pop3 email setup at my company domain. They just started about 2-3 weeks ago and are KILLING my inbox.

If you're getting SPAM through your ISP, then you should check with them.

Both Yahoo and Google have excellent SPAM filters that allow you to NOT receive SPAM on your BB, but you can still see what they've decided is Spam BEFORE it's trashed. I haven't had any problems with Google, but on Yahoo every once in a while legit email - even from people whose email address is in my Yahoo address book - gets misfiled!

You could try setting up filters on your BIS, but there the strategy is really to NOT forward any email EXCEPT from domains or individuals you want to get email from (aka White-listing) but this can be very tedious!

"+mablackberry+"

I am still on BIS 1.8 and until RIM got hacked a month ago never a problem. If you don't use your carriers BB address and just something like gmail it shouldn't be a problem.

The fact that you started to get spam a month ago is not necessary proof RIM was hacked. I would not be surprised if rumors about the hack are created by spammers trying to direct blames from themselves.

Spam is not just blackberry problem. Expecting blackberries to be spam free forever is naive at least.

Not giving your email address is a start and filters do work. Now a days any site you visit may be the start of your spam email.

Also I would think any anti spam software running on a BB would be memory draining. Not sure It would be a good idea

It's better to have spam filtering a bit further upstream. People already complain about sluggish performance on their Blackberries. I can't see a device-side spam solution being a good approach for this reason. If someone can develop an app that doesn't have much of a performance hit it would be worthwhile.
