8100 and EDGE?
Please Login to Remove!
Hey does anyone know if the new Pearl will come with EDGE capability on TMob's network, as opposed to the current 7100 which has GPRS only? That would be a major factor in my goin for the Pearl vs the 8700 when my contract's up for renewal next month

Hm. I thought more of the Blackberries had EDGE. Looks like only the 8700, somewhat surprising to me. Of course during the debut of the 8700 I was still in Treo-land so I missed much of the hoopla on the 8700's launch. EDGE capability must have been a big selling point, huh?

Full sized keyboard, EDGE, double the RAM, faster processor, brilliant screen and full sized keyboard. There were quite a few selling points.

Well when I first got my 7100t, back then the 8700 wasn't even out and EDGE was barely up and running on TMob (Sept/Oct of last year). I'm actually really excited that the 8100 will have EDGE!

Interesting to note...the photos that BG provided that show the "about" screen, list the handheld as a GPRS device...I would imagine that's a prototype thing...

I saw that, but one of the photos of the home screen shows "edge" in the upper right hand corner with the signal strength indicator. I would hope that means it is an EDGE capable device as that would be a huge selling point for me.

So it is a preproduction thing maybe.
Does it seem any faster?

Faster?
On the 7130c it is definately faster when in EDGE.
I see the biggest improvement when surfing the web.
After you enable the Java function it seemed to slow down a little, but just surfing HTML it's pretty fast.
Alot faster than just GPRS.
