Question Will the Verizon 8830 have the same problem deleting messages as the Cingular 8800?

Please Login to Remove!

I know that the Cingular 8800 as well as the Pearl phones have an issue deleting messages from the handheld, as well as deletions on the server reflecting on the handheld (through BES).

Does anyone know if this problem will be fixed before the 8830 comes out? My boss wants one, but not if this problem occurs. He's very happy with his 8703e now, but would like to have the world phone capabilities.

What issues are you referring to? We have dozens of Pearls and around 20 8800s, and no reports of any difficulties deleting messages. What version of BES are you using?

The users are reporting that if they have read a message on the handheld, they can not delete it on the handheld, and therefore it doesn't delete from the server. When they delete a message on the server, if it has been read on the handheld, it doesn't delete there.

This has been reported on a Pearl from T-Mobile and on both a Pearl and an 8800 on Cingular.

No problems deleting messages from either device, ever.

Since you haven't mentioned it yet... I'll assume you're using BES 4.1.x on Lotus Domino?
If so, this issue was resolved a while ago by RIM with the release of HF1 for BES 4.1.3.
There's several threads that discuss this issue in great detail.
Here's a couple:

No issues here. I don't think what you're talking about is just specific to a particular model or two -- there must be other factors involved that are causing your situation.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I have not experienced the issue you are referring to. About fifteen to thirty seconds after I delete a message from my Blackberry the message is deleted from exchange. I'll sit there and watch them vanish in Outlook in amazement if I am really bored.

We are on BES on Domino. How do I check my BES version??? I thought we had done all of the patches.

Thanks in advance!

Go to your Domino console, and type:
tell bes about
and then hit enter.
It should return your BES version and number of active users.

I believe the version should be 4.1.3.19 when you have SP3 and HF1.

EDIT: I also see that RIM released HF2 for SP3 a few days ago.
I have not installed this patch yet.

On exchange and it takes more like 3-5 minutes for the reconcile to happen. Sometimes longer.

Reconciliation of deletions from Blackberry Device back to BES can (and typically does) take up to 20 minutes.
