I've searched for a solution and I found something about upgrading to DM 3.5, so I did. I still get BSOD when I connect my 8700 to my PC. It happens pretty quick. I notice it is as device drivers are trying to be installed. So far I hate vista but backing up to XP is not an option.

I'm running Vista Premium w/ SP1. I'm not sure where to go next. This site is very helpful so I hope someone here has a solution.

Make sure that when you run the install you right-click and select Run as Administrator.

Nope!! BSOD again. I uninstalled DM then re-installed as admin.

Have you tried completely uninstalling DM, and installing version 4.2, SP 2?

Yes. Ihad 4.2 sp1 before I searched for a solution here. I went with 4.3 because I thought it would help. I ha since wiped the PC and reinstalled vista to see if I could resolve the issue. Still BSOD when I connect the BB to my PC. Also I said earlier that I had vista premium, its actually vista ultimate.

Any takers on this one.

What is the message on on the blue screen? Assuming Vista's BSODs look like XP's.

The problem seems to be caused by... what file?

In the all caps -- what does it say? Something that looks like this PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA

Also at the bottom, what does it say under technical information after STOP:
all those hex numbers mean something and can be searched on the web and in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. Without more info, it's impossible to even guess what might be causing your BSOD. Usually it's a driver conflict.

I should have mentioned that the vista bsod lasts a total of 8 seconds in this case so it is hard to get a handle on the 0exact problem. Stupid vista.

Unless there are some Vista gurus here, I'd suggest you post at a Windows help forum. Even though your problem is related to your Blackberry, it's a more of Windows problem, likely a driver conflict.

Couple of things I forgot to say... did you install the device OS to the PC? If not, try doing that and see if that solves the problem.

Also you might try temporarily turning off your anti-virus when you connect the device and see if that helps.

There should be an option in Vista somewhere to change what happens on BSOD, so it doesn't automatically reboot. XP has that option. I'll look and see if I can find it again. That way when it blue screens, you can write down the error message. Without the error message it's hard to say what the problem might be.

try going to admin tools in control panel, then go to the event viewer. Click on the system tab and see what leads up to the BSOD.

I found the option in XP. It's probably similar in Vista. Will try this screenshot as an attachment, if it doesn't work, I'll upload it someplace and link to it.

Anyway, right click My Computer > Properties > Advanced tab. In the Start up and Recovery area, click settings. That will bring up the diaglogue box on the right in the screenshot. In the System failure area, uncheck the box that says Automatically restart. Don't change any other settings. Click ok, then Apply. You might have to restart for that to take effect, I'm not sure.

Then the next time you have a BSOD, you will have time to write down the error messages. It will do a memory dump, then turn off the PC.
