Google Maps 2.2.0 released.
Please Login to Remove!
Google Maps 2.2.0
Google Maps
EDIT: Also mentioned in this thread:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/afte...new-2-1-x.html
... but that topic is getting a little bloated.
I'll try my luck with starting a new one.

The first time I ran it, it froze loading at 10%. I did a softreset then it worked fine. Is there a changelog provided by Google anywhere?

Anyone else seeing a WHOLE LOT of hour-glassing with 2.2.0? 2 soft resets, and still the same.

I haven't been able to load anything newer than 1.6.4 due to the app locking up on the second radio permission. Has to do with OS 4.5 and BES.

We'll see how this version and thread goes. Maybe it's time to unstick the other one and sticky this one.

Google told me you don't have to delete the old version, that the new one will install over it - in case that helps anybody.
Their Web site has a list of public transit systems for which the new version integrates information on a second screen tab - and their online videos are pretty cool.

Running 2.2 on my 8310 with 4.5.0.37 and haven't had a glitch in the 3 hours it's been on there. I've not really taxed it much yet, but have poked around and all seems to work.
It sounds like I'm the exception based on these reports, and those from other forums. But my 4.5 install hasn't really caused me any grief at all with the 3rd party apps. I use.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)
Any feedback from those who installed it?
I remember that one of the recent upgrades had problems and it was difficult to revert to the previous version.

I installed over 2.1.0.
I love the new "public transit" functionailty! Mobile
It EVEN works here in EUROPE!
Edit : Not that I can voucher for all major European cities. ;)
Is there a list available for all cities supported?
Edit2 :
Quote:
Google's coverage has been continuously expanded in the past months to many US states, Japan, Austria, Switzerland, important cities from Canada, Italy, France, UK and Australia.

Google Transit
Edit: I might debate the "expanded... to... important cities" part, though. The non-us list, while a good start is pretty weak as usual.

Did they add another 'zoom' level in the satellite view? The only problem that I am having with v2.2.0 is that at the tightest zoom level in satellite view, all it get is the cross-hatched background image and the blue dot (my location) jumps around rather fiercely.
If I back out one level, everything is fine, including the satellite image.
It's almost like when you zoom in too tight on the desktop app - except you don't get the message about the satellite image not being available at that zoom level.
I have let the Google Maps app run for over 5 minutes trying to get that image, but it just won't come... they need to either eliminate that zoom level or at least display the image that the desktop app shows in that situation.
Other than that, it seems pretty stable (and quick) on my Curve with 4.2.2.194

Wow, it worked seamlessly with my bb, loving it, the new menus are great, better graphics - sweet, now all we need is the option to "add to contacts", once we get that, its bye bye for WLS

I have a Telus 8330 and the GPS still doesn't work in the version (didn't expect it to - I think its something that will have to come from RIM)
I really like the layout changes in 2.2.0 and the colors in the menu and overall it works much quicker than 2.1.0 did.
btw - I prefered to see Google Maps discussion in the GPS section of the site, not sure why threads there would refer to here? Why bother with a GPS section at all, since everything there is aftermarket.
