alrite, i thought mine showed them as read before...and thought i was losing my mind

although, with my other account (imap i think) it does show them as read, and i disabled wireless reconciliation on that account to prevent that.

but wireless reconciliation is enabled on the gmail account but it doesnt show them as read.

what exactly does wireless reconciliation mean btw?

Mine doesn't do this either. With Yahoo! it does show as read if I read it on the BlackBerry.

When I use the gmail app on my phone and check or send emails it definitely DOES show them as read on my computer.

If I simply check my email in my regular email folder though and not using the gmail app it does not show as read when I log online.

For T-Mobile, the option you refer to says "Synchronize deleted items between this mailbox and my device"

Nothing about read/unread status. I have a GMail Hosted e-mail account (i.e. my own domain name through GMail) and I called Tmo about this and they said it is supposed to update the read status, although others claim Google does not support this.

Tmo noted the issue on my account, said give it 48 hrs., and if it still wasn't fixed they would open a ticket with RIM. I will call on Friday and see what they say.

@unknownvirus,

I confirmed with RIM on Friday that GMail does not synch. read/unread status of e-mails due to their implementation (i.e. choice of POP). Yahoo would be the choice if you absolutely need this. Otherwise, use the GMail application for Blackberry.

The RIM rep. agreed this is a hassle given the nice interface of GMail vs. Yahoo's, however, nothing RIM can do about it. Google for GMail IMAP and you will see many people have voice issues with GMail's implementation...

I believe you do need a data plan.

Mine shows up as new on my gmail account if I've read the same mail on my phone. Got gmail to work via WiFi instead of paying for data :p

I don't like the the GMail application for Blackberry. It certainly looks good, but several features are missing and it crashes a lot when I compose or reply. I end up using the Web interface, which does have a mobile version and looks very good. Not fancy like the GMail app, but still clean and very usable.

It sounds like recent big news: Gmail gets IMAP

There is also another thread that's started on this: here

I don't know enough to get this working myself, but hopefully someone figures it out soon. I just bought my BB 8310 less than a week ago and was hoping to use Gmail primarily with it. The inability to archive and mark as read was a huge setback and this news makes me feel like I should've gotten an iPhone just for the Gmail compatibility, but I really like my Curve.

BTW, I do see the IMAP feature under my Gmail settings, and I have just enabled it.. Anyone have any futher steps?
