Unhappy Curve 8320 rebooting frequently

Please Login to Remove!

Hi

To set the stage, I'm new to the BB and therefore don't exactly know what to expect, but I can't imagine what I'm experiencing is normal. I searched the forums and couldn't find anything that solved my problems. The following thread seems somewhat related however.

My Curve is rebooting frequently. Email, and local applications work fine, but the standard browser, google maps and opera often cause the phone to reboot within less than a minute of using them. I have tried everything the T-Mobile support told me to and everything I could find on the forums. I have wiped the device, reinstalled everything, upgraded to 2 different OS versions, pulled the battery ... sometimes it seems it works better but it has never lasted for more than an hour even without a complete reinstall of the OS and nothing else on it.

Have I missed anything I should try or should I just return the phone?

Here is more data about what I'm running right now:

T-Mobile Curve 8320
BIS
Platform 2.5.0.33
Applications 4.2.2.175
Free memory: approx 14Mb
Strong encryption and compressed data are turned on

I have tried without 3rd party apps, but just in case they are know to leave something behind after uninstalling them:

Google Maps
Google Mail
Opera 4 beta 2
Berry Dialer
Meteor Crusher
Circle Popper
BrickBreaker
My Alarm
Chronograph
CountDown Timer

Thanks for your help!

Same thing happened with mine. about 5-7 times a day.

Called T-Mobile, said to return it. I got a new one but it kept doing it.

I removed Google Maps and InfoSpace and it seemed to stop. Happened one more time, but then I upgraded to .175 and it hasn't happened in a few days now.

On the hardware side, I heard it could be a simcard issue also if it is shorting out the connecting and making it restart.

Seemed for me that the .175 fixed it.

Hmm, I have infospace and google maps on my 8320 and have never had it reboot, with either .171 or .175.

Are you getting an error on the screen at all and all you can do is reboot or does it just do it by itself?

Using a microSD card in it?

I had a 7100 that kept doing that and it turned out it had bad flash memory in it that would get corrupted after a short time. Needed a new BB to fix that problem.

I ended up returning my original Curve. This was 2 days ago and despite many many tests my new one hasn't crashed yet. I haven't installed all applications yet though - I'm taking it very slowly so I will know the cause in case it starts rebooting again. But most applications are back on, so at this point I'm assuming it was a hardware problem.

Btw my previous Curve had the WiFi batch on top, the new one doesn't. Unfortunately the screen of the new one isn't as good - it shows the pink described in another recent thread quite noticeably. But I'll take a stable phone with a slight pink tint from certain angles any day over one that crashes constantly

OMG! I have some apps on 8320 with .171, have never had it reboot at all. I love my curve! no way trade for other devices.

My 30-minute old Curve did the same thing. I couldn't scroll without the twirling hourglass. Exchanged it at TMO and I'm golden!
