Default Why the 8830 over the 8130?

Please Login to Remove!

I bought the 8830 when it came out (Sprint) and see the cheaper 8130 just came out. Both have full qwerty, but the 8130 has the cam. Is there any reason I shouldn't be pissed about this? I got the 8830 because it's unlocked for world use, and I travel a lot, but the 8130 is GSM so it too will work out of the country. Maybe more expensive per minute, but at least I don't have to track down someone who speaks English to buy a SIM card from. GRRR! I'm pissed off. Anything I should know that'll calm me down?

You shouldn't be pissed at all. Your information on the 8130 is mostly wrong.

The 8130 does not have a full Qwerty keyboard. It's a suretype keyboard.
The 8130 is not a World Phone.
The 8130 is not a GSM device. It's CDMA only.

I'm surely thinking of a different model. Which is Sprint to come out with? Maybe the Curve? I know there's a new full qwerty/cam/gsm on the way.

There are rumors to a curve coming out in 2Q08, but nothing concrete. And nothing about it being GSM, either, at least from what I've seen, read, heard.

The 8130 does not have full QWERTY. It has SureType, a hybrid keyboard where each key has 2 letters and the BB predicts what you're trying to type. It's not some folks' cup of tea, but others swear by it. Some swear at it. I got used to it pretty quickly but still preferred my old full QWERTY, like the 8830 has.

I use the 8830. My wife has an 8130. We are both satisfied. It depends on preference.

Just went from 8830 to 8130. Verdict is still out. Been on it for about 5 days. About 20-30 email/sms messages per day. I'm bilingual so I mostly use Multitap because my BB no habla espanol.

After using 72xx and 75xx models prior, my 8830 feels like a Pearl

Just for clarification sake...
The Sprint 8830 is both CDMA and GSM, hence its World Phone designation.

The 8130 is only CDMA.
