Question Typing on 8130

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
I'm looking at getting the 8130 this week but I'm nervous about it not having the full keyboard. How do you current Pearl users feel about the keyboard? I dunno, maybe I should think about the 8830? The Pearl still has got to be better than typing on a Razr...

do not look at the screen. the first paragraph you type have the screen covered by a business card. You will not have any issues with typing at that point.

It does sound weird, but yes it is true. The only time i have really had problems with SureType was when i was typing my notes in history and i had to write names. For some reason my phone doesn't know how to spell Hatshepsut, Nitocris, or Herodoyus. I wonder why? I wouldn't worry about it.

Cool

Yeah I had an issue with some Dutch names "van what-a-majiger"..

At first I started typing and reading what I was typing as I was going along trying to put in the name Darcy, and by the time I got to the "r" it would change to 'far'. This is basically because it takes the "logic" of the keys you hit, since there are two letters for nearly every key. It also gives you a list of words of suggestion which are helpful for longer words over 6 letters.

When typing your first time, say in store, don't type slow reading what you type. Type as fast as you can hitting the keys and watch the glory after your done, everything will be done right.

I love the Pearl, it's a gem (alright oxymoron).

Enjoy it, the 8130 is not a waste of money.

Default typing

I am a prior user of the HTC Touch and I have to tell you that I love this phone soooo much better. My friends say I have 'crossed over to the dark side', but if this is dark....sign me up!! I wouldn't go back..

I concur with what the others have said. I love SureType and actually prefer it to full qwerty.

Now for a completely different opinion!

I hate suretype. It is never right, but the beauty of it is you can turn it off, and use the tap the keys system, which is just fine. Still love the Pearl, still love the size, which wouldn't happen with fully qwerty, and I never look at the screen when I type either.

What I find with SureType is that it 'learns' exceptionally well. So if I type a previously unknown word I might have to backtrack to correct a letter or two, but after that it will allow me to type me word much more easily. If I later have no use for that word and find it's coming up too often I can delete it from the custom dictionary.

I've had an issue recently where "Osil" kept coming up when I typed my name "Paul", which I found was because I somehow managed to add it to the custom dictionary. It's worth checking if you have any rogue entries if you're experiencing problems.

As for what to look at whilst typing, I think I must be the odd one out looking at the screen rather then keyboard.

I just switched from a 7100i to the 8130. The only thing I dislike about the 8130 is the size but it didn't keep me from getting it. My hands aren't small or large so the small keys will take some getting used to. The 7100i had the right size keys for me but the 8130 has more features, which attracted me.

I love SureType and I was convinced I was going to hate it. I don't have long nails but I must have fat fingers. I find using the nails on my thumbs is the best way to type for me. I'm pretty fast now!
