Actually...the only way I've been able to load software on my Pearl is OTA. I downloaded checkers and bowling from the lounge ensuring to choose the correct device but when I attempt to install them via Desktop Manager I get the following:

No additional applications designed for you device were found

General Pearl games are for OS 4.2.

The 8130 is on 4.3 and the installers do not recognise this OS version as compatible.

Have you installed the OS on your PC? If not install the same OS that's currently on your device onto your computer, once you do that you should be able to load applications via desktop manager.

I'm having the same problem. What OS are you talking about installing on the computer? my desktop manager is version 4.3 just like the phone, but that's not a OS.

Go to the Verizon Wireless site and do a search for the Blackberry Pearl 8130 OS. You should be directed to a site that will give you the option of downloading Desktop Manager or the BB 8130 Device Software. The one you are looking for is the BB Device Software. Once installed on your computer DM should recognize the correct software.

I had the same problem and posted then found out the solution on my own. I've gotten a few PMs about how to fix it. Here's what I reply with:

You have to have the same OS system version on your desktop as you do on your phone. I see you have verizon, go here: BlackBerry® Software Updates

Select your phone model, then download the device software (also the desktop software if you don't already have the latest). Once downloaded, run the device software app. It will walk you through the install. Connect your phone and sync it. You should now be able to install the applications that you couldn't before. This is what worked for me.
