Default Curve Countries of Manufacture

Please Login to Remove!

I'm planning to buy another Curve, soon. Here's what I noticed a few weeks ago, in terms of fit-and-finish.

A couple of 8310s made in Hungary were very well fit and felt very solid.

Two 8310s made in Mexico were not fit nearly as well. The body panels were slightly warped and the bottom corners were not flush with the body. The trackball was also a little more rough than the two Curves made in Hungary.

Is this consistent with others' observations? Are Curves made in any particular country usually made better?

Based on what I saw with these four, the ones made in Mexico looked shoddy compared to the ones made in Hungary.

Thanks for any feedback.

Both of the Mexican made 8320s I've had have been well fit and solid. No complaints at all.

I don't know if most of the parts are actually made in Mexico or not, but that would seem to have a greater impact on the fit than where it's assembled. Since the replacement parts seem to come from China, I'd bet they're really sourced from there and assembled closer to the retail market.

The assembly is what had concerned me. The two from Hungary were perfectly fit together. The two that I looked over that were from Mexico were poorly fit together. The way the body panels overhung and were warped in two places on both of them, made me pass on them. It was unacceptable to me (but I'm kind of picky).

Hm, interesting here. AT&T users seem to have seen poorly made 8300s and 8310s from Mexico, while Tmobile users seem to have no problems with their Mexican made 8320s.

almost everything we are currently using, or will be using over the next five years, is/will be made in Mexico. My TMO 8320 is made in Mexico, and i will return it to TMO (I have insurance) on the first sign of trouble. So far it is rock solid.

I've yet to recieve a Curve thats NOT made in Mexico. On my 6th.

Maybe that's why i'm having so much bad luck? I have noticed poor build quality and assembly except for maybe two of them. I've learned to live with that.

Then again, my 8700g was made in a mexico and not a single problem after over a year of use!

I just got my replacement Curve today and it is made in Canada. My old one that I was having reboot problems with was made in Mexico. I thought my old was was put together pretty well, but in comparison to my new one, there are noticeable differences. My new one feels much sturdier, and the piece at the bottom that says T-Mobile on it as well as the trackball aren't as flimsy. They were both a bit loose feeling on my old phone. Also, the keys light up a much bluer color than my old Curve which had keys with a more yellow-white glow to them.

Wirelessly posted

Mine is made in Mexico and the side panels that wrap around the keyboard are warped. My device feels flimsy as well.

Mine says Made in Mexico and the sides creak like crazy. Very disappointed with the fit and finish as it's only a few months old. May have to pay more attention to the assembly country on my next one.
