About RIM's new OS
Please Login to Remove!
I figure it must be like magic! With all the new features how in the heck will it run on our existing 64mb devices. If they do not do something to manage memory better that the existing OS, WE ARE ALL DOOMED!
They must be adding features while making the OS size smaller! <vbg>

My expectation is that it will not run well on 64MB devices; I've had this conversation with various people in RIM.
The positive news is that new devices will be launching with higher memory capacity. The 83xx CDMA device that will be launching soon will, for example, have closer to 90MB onboard. I personally think that 90MB is still way to low; however, it's a step in the right direction.

Hell ... at this point I'd do backflips for 512MB. I'm, frankly, very surprised that that the 64MB standard has stuck around for as long as it has while the OS has continued to grow in terms of new features, default applications and, thereby, system resource requirements.
I'm also surprised that a Rev.A chipset has not yet been incorporated for CDMA hardware models (I'm fairly sure that the 6550 will be used in the 83xx series ... may be wrong on that point).
A lot of things surprise me these days ...

17MB free with a full activation, unpurged phone call logs, full calendar, Google Maps, MGmaps, GMail, a custom theme, Facebook, JiveTalk, InfoSpace Find It!, and WorldMate Live. I don't believe this is much different than OS 4.2.2 and I've had no major performance issues. The new features add very little overhead, imo.

only real difference would be Docs2Go and the video camera. the full Docs2Go suite is the only big thing i can think of. not sure how much overhead it needs to operate.
