Default Phone keeps "THINKING" and is becoming Slow

Please Login to Remove!

I don't know how to explain it other that the phone keeps thinking about something... I get the little "pin wheel" in the center of my screen every few seconds. Like it's thinking or searching for something. It wasn't doing this until last night and now it just keeps spinning/thinking every few seconds. I'm missing calls because it is almost in a frozen state because of this. Is there anyway to fix this? I checked the memory card and it's not "too" full, I don't know what else to do???

I have only added one theme (bPhone) to the phone and only a handful of ringtones/Pix. Other than that the phones memory shouldn't be that full.

Please help. I'm about to throw this thing out the window!

Rather than guess how loaded you memory is, check it Options > Status.

What is the file free there?

Low memory issues will certainly cause the BB to perform as you describe.
First off, with the BB powered ON, remove the battery, hold for 30 seconds and replace the battery and reboot.

Then read this:

13.7mb free is not extremely low, but lower than I would maintain.

Do as described above with the reboot, and post back your file free. I am betting 17+mb free.

The memory is the same. I Did a hard reboot right before you sent me the guide links. It seems to have subsided for the time being. I don't know wtf caused it? Thanks once AGAIN for your awesome help. Hope you're having a great day.

I have an idea what caused it, from the link above. Move your pictures, etc., to a Media Card, off the device memory. Get your free memory up to 15-16 mb free.

Good luck with it.

besides themes do you have any apps running? like google maps? telenav? games? you can tell by holding the alt key and pushing the back key (the arrow key just to the right of the trackball). any running programs will be displayed here, sometimes even just having some of the stock things loaded all at once can cause this, like going into your address book, then without closing it going to the media manager and so on and so forth.

Good question, Billy. Apps running in the background are one reason I asked him to pull the battery and reboot, it will close all that are.

I would like to make a suggestion!

There are NUMEROUS threads like this dealing with the same subject (memory) everyday!

Do you think it would be helpfull to give it a seperate sticky in LARGE BOLD LETTERS at the top of this section. I know most would not read it first but maybe a few would.

I would also think this would be a top PRIORITY for RIM to get this fixed!

There is already a sticky for this.

Sorry, I was thinking of something with the right wording and bold letters. If my 8310 was having thinking problems or was acting slow, none of the stickies really do it!

Just a thought, as it is not having much effect

Well, please tell me what YOU think is the "right wording".

Now:

Another sticky for "little "pin wheel" in the center of my screen keeps spinning"? That is what this OP asked... it will never be perfectly worded for everyone, but perhaps you know what words everyone else is thinking.

We have no idea what kind of effect it's having. There are thousands of unregistered guests going through this forum every day. If a few ask the question, what's the harm?

Like I said, best to leave it as it is, it works so well!

Maybe posted AT THE TOP of the 8300 forum instead of General Forums. This is mainly as 83XX problem

Thanks for all the feedback... I checked the applications that are running and it was google talk, push to talk, browser, home screen. That's all. Since I pulled the bat out the phone seems to be working better. I'm not sure if there was any additional programs running in the bkground before the reboot.

I'm sorry the thread I posted has such a jacked up name, but I couldn't think of how to better state it at the time.

Anyway, thank you again for all of your help. You're all bb masters~

Must be doing some good. Two of the FAQ's attached to that link have been viewed a combined 39,000 views. I know I haven't directed that many users to it.

And honestly, if you have suggestion, make it, rather than just say use the right wording.

Good luck robbie... the thing to remember is to pull the battery and reboot about once a week.
