Default Enterprise activation?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I just want to check that I understood things right. With BES 3.6 I have no way to use over the wireless network activation, right? So I have to connect each BB device to user's desktop PC or BES server at least once?

BTW. I tried to update BES 3.6 to SP5.. does not work if you don't happen to have the installation on drive C.. for example my server does not have at all drive C, so installation of SP5 is impossible. Incredible :(

Correct, over the air wireless (Enterprise Activation) is a feature of BES v4.0 and is not available in versions previous to that one. Makes a HUGE difference in the ability to set up new devices, troubleshoot problems, etc.

4.0 was a huge upgrade to the functionality of handhelds. The majority of our clients don't even use desktop manager and it is forbidden to have it on your computer.

doh.. and I have to cope with 3.6.. and even without service packs..

I think I'll never manage to get wireless calendar sync working with this setup

well.. I guess our company don't want to buy the real solution ever if setting up calendar sync is this hard.. evaluation version should work well if RIM wants somebody to actually buy the solution..

thanks anyway!

Wireless calendar sync works just fine in BES 3.6. It has worked since BES 2.1.

ok.

Enterprise server 3.6. Windows server 2003. Exchange server 2003 SP1. BlackBerry 7100x.
CDO.dll 6.5.7220 registered to both, Exchange server computer and BES computer.
Email reconciliation works just fine. Wireless calender syncronization & contacts & tasks syncronization does not work. In the BES server management it says that Wireless calendar sync is disabled. I cannot get it on. I have restarted services & the server computer multiple times. In the BB 7100x device there is no option in calendar->options menu to turn the calendar sync on as there should be according to instructions I found from the web. So I guess the problem lies in the BES server..

Have you installed the Desktop Manager piece? That is where you turn on Wireless Calendar sync for the handheld - it is not done on the device itself.

Yes. In 3.6 you have to install Desktop mgr, then when you do an intellisync setup and you choose the calendar portion you have to choose "Blackberry Wireless Sync" and that will enable it.

Unfortuntatly wireless contacts sync isn't available in 3.6, that's a feature of 4.0...

Let us know if that solves your problem. Sounds like you really need to get 4.0. Get with the times man! ^_^

If you have a bunch of BES servers around the world, with hundreds or thousands of BBs, going to BES 4.0 is not a easy as it sounds. Particularly with the activation problems that people continue to have to this day.

Well I work for a helpdesk at a popular BES hosting solution. I know all about activation problems. Half of it are because people can't follow simple directions.

(edit: that isn't sopposed to be directed at anyone in this thread. Sorry if it sounded that way)
