New to the whole world of cellular phone... I must join the new century! a friend from work wants to sell me her used Blackberry Pearl for what sounds like a good price... I don't know her so well, and not sure how this all works. For starters, how do I know she isn't selling me a stolen phone? What happens if it is, since I really have no way to know? I would not want to get into troubles to save a few bucks!

one what carrier is the device for?

if Verizon/sprint/alltel

get the ESN and check with carrier they can see if the device is reported lost or stolen if so it is useless to you

I bought mine in the box slightly used on eBay for $250 shipped (Pearl 8130). $150 would be an amazing deal for the Pearl.
