Default I'm new, just had a few questions, thanks!

My phone recently broke, so i'm thinking about getting an 8120 for T-mobile. I'm new to homebrew mods and things on phones, but I had all sorts of stuff on my ipod, iriver, and sansa players. A friend of mine had the t-mobile MDA with windows mobile but i hear the blackberry is java based and alot can be done with it.

So anyway, i just have a questions.

1. I'm getting the feeling that there are no homebrew OS's for the phone just different applications people make, is that right? If not, is there a big difference between the stock OS and otherwise, and if so, is there a big diff between the stock app's and otherwise?

2. I'm reading that I need windows for any of the app changes, anyway an ubuntu OS work with the blackberry?

3. Is it risky to work for any homebrew app's with the phone? How easy is it take off, install/uninstall app's or OS's. And what are the chances of permanently bricking your phone if any at all?

Anyway, that's all for now. This forum looks kick ass, so I'm gonna continue reading the wiki and other posts. Take care

1. Official OSs only.

2. Yes, Desktop Manager requires Windows.

3. I install and uninstall apps daily. Keep a recent backup of the device. It is hard to completely and permanently brick the device that JL-Cmder will not pull it out of almost any coma you put your BB in.

Good luck, welcome to the BBForums, and enjoy.
