Default Moving users to another BES

Please Login to Remove!

I am looking at moving our user base to a new BES.

I setup the new server with the bes services, registered with a valid srp key and identifier, added some licenses from my current bes, added a registered user from the old/current bes to the new one, sent them the activiation, they re-activated with the new bes server and their mail appears to be working. It appears however that it did things automatically. IE, they are saying their blackberry just started downloading the service book automatically on its own and that they didnt need to key in the password that typically gets sent through email.

I am wondering if this is because that blackberry is already registered and visible on RIM's network? Or if its the way I sent the activation.

Thanks

Are both BES pointing to same SQL database? If this is the case, you don't need to do a new Enterprise Activation when moving users between these two servers.

Then this behaviour is strange. And you deleted the users from the old server?

no. i think that was my mistake. i think i should be deleting them from the old server and then adding them to the new one sending the activation. dont know why it worked for the one user but others are complaining of problems now

If you're moving users from one BES configuration database to a totally different BES and configuration database, then you need to wipe the handheld as well as remove the account from the original BES.

What's the reason for having a new database? It would have been much simpler to use the existing database and then you wouldn't need to cause any interruption for your end users.
Just move them from one BES to another seasmlessly.
(I guess it's a little late for that now though.)

Thanks for the information! Unfortunately the database it was hosted on is being decommissioned and was experiencing some issues anyways so we wanted to start from scratch. We only have about 30 users currently so not a real large environment. We do however have expectation of about another 80-100 users over the next 3 months which is why we wanted to just start clean.
