Angry Sent Items Showing in Inbox after moving to Exchange 2007

Please Login to Remove!

So we set up Exchange 2007 and moved all of the mailboxes over and everything was working great, but now ALL of my users are having messages that they sent appear in thier inboxes. Myself included. I was using an iphone and started using my blackberry again this morning, but sent messages didn't start showing up until just now ( 18 hours later ). I have checked the settings on the HH and they are still set to hide filed and sent, have also checked the BPS and it does not have anything funky going on with permissions or policies. I haven't found much by searching except one person said restart the synchronization service. If only it had been that easy! Has anyone else had any experience with this? We have 20 or so handhelds 83xx series and we are on Exchange 2007 and BPS 4.1.4. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

*Also as a side note....these messages are NOT appearing in the inbox in OWA or Outlook, only in Sent Items there. Also, I just noticed that the messages are ALSO in the Sent Items folder on my blackberry, but they have an envelope icon, not the typical checkmark icon that all of the other messages in Sent Items have.

I would grab the refid from the message you sent from the BB (Alt-VIEW with the message open) and then grep the MAGT logs to find out what happen.. I think that is your best bet. To go the logs.

I can't believe I can't find anyone else having this same issue. It is happening across our organization since moving to Exchange 2007.....

I just started having the same problem as docpadds this morning. I had my BB tethered to my laptop and was running Outlook to send emails. After I disconnected, a few minutes later, all the emails that I had sent from Outlook showed up in the Inbox on my BB. I switched over from BIS to Hosted Exchange with BES over a week ago and this never happened before.

Things that have changed are, yesterday, after reinstalling XP from scratch on my laptop, I installed Outlook 2007, when I had been running Outlook 2003 before. And I (re-)installed Desktop Manager (v4.6). But, my DM before was 4.6 installed for BIS. This time when I installed it, I installed it for BES (and set it to redirect through BES, not my desktop).

My Pearl is on OS 4.5.

It almost sounds like inbox reconciled/synced inbox from bb to inbox in your mailbox? But default is that desktop wins. Or maybe I misunderstood it.

The problem is that items from Sent Items in Outlook showed up in my Inbox on my BlackBerry. The say they are From me, and they don't have a check mark next to them, which would indicate a sent item. They have an envelope icon next to them, indicating they are new, unread messages.

It also seems like it might be related to how long I was tethered. I tethered my BB and sent a message a bit ago and then disconnected from tethering right away. That message has not shown up on my BB (i.e. things behaved correctly).

But, when I had the problem this morning, it was after being tethered for more than an hour.

This seems to jibe with behavior I noticed before when I was using BIS. If I tethered for a short time, as soon as I disconnected, any emails that were queued up for delivery via BIS would get delivered immediately. But, if I tethered for a long time, when I disconnected, messages that were queued for delivery via BIS would not get delivered for, sometimes, 20 or 30 minutes. And if I went into Manage Connections and checked Services Status (in the long-tethered scenario), it would show BIS and BES as "not connected".

Funny enough, as I was typing the above, I had been disconnected from tethering for over 15 minutes. I went into Manage Connections and checked Services Status (to make sure I was using the correct names), and BIS and BES both said "not connected". I went back and turned off Mobile Network, then turned it back on, and now BIS and BES both say "Mobile Network".

I think there is a problem with OS v4.5 and tethering that causes the BIS/BES connection to not reconnect for a while after a tethering session ends. But, man, I do NOT want to go back to v4.3, now that I have gotten used to HTML email....

Further info. This is still happeneing to me. Now I have verified that:

- after I send a message via Outlook, while tethered through my BB, the message shows up in my Sent Items folder.
- after I disconnect from tethering, the message shows up in the Inbox on my BB as a message from me to whoever I sent it to.
- On my BB, the sent message has a status of Read.
- after I delete it from my BB, the message in my Sent Items folder in Outlook gets moved to my Deleted Items folder!

I am upgrading my Pearl OS now from 4.5.0.56 to 4.5.0.66. We'll see if that makes any difference.

Default I've the same problem

I've the same problem with 4.1 sp6 and Exchange 2007 sp1. Bidirectional read mails fails when open mail from Outlook in Blackberry appear unread, but this doesn't happen when open unread mail from Blackberry.

The upgrade to .66 made no difference. I still get Sent Items showing up in my BB Inbox after an extended session of being tethered.

Nobody has any clue on this? It seems like it has to be a BES issue.

Mailstreet Tech Support told me to leave the items in my BB Inbox for longer (at least 20 minutes) and they should eventually sync up and move to where they are supposed to be. Well, I left some in there over night and they still didn't sync up.

Default Similar Issue

I have a similar issue with the sent items but testing over time shows that mine is triggered when I have a missed call logged in my inbox. Once I have a missed call most, if not all, the mail I send from my Outlook 2007 with Exchange 2007 show in my BB inbox. The even more frustrating thing is when I delete them the move from my Outlook sent items to Outlook deleted items. Major kudos to someone that post a solution.

Update: I finally heard back from Tom at MailStreet Tech Support yesterday evening. He talked to RIM about this issue and it turns out it's a known issue with BES and RIM says there will be a fix in the next release of BES.

I forgot to include, this problem only happens with Outlook in cached mode. Tom said my choices were, one, live with the problem until they release a BES with a fix, or, two, turn off cached mode on my Exchange connection in Outlook.

Hello,
Thank you for the update! It has been driving me mad!!
By any chance do you know what version of BES release they are putting the fix it patch in?
We have just upgraded to 4.1 service pack 6 but still have the same problem.
Thankx for the feedback, I thought it was just us having this mind boggling issue!!

Are there any news on this issue? We just moved to a different hosted Exchange provider and are having this problem now too.

I haven't heard anything on it, and I'm still having the problem.

This problem is solved in BES 4.1.6 MR1. Quote from MR1 release notes:

Quote:
SDR 184848: In BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1 SP4 and later, if your users had Microsoft Outlook 2007 installed and configured in cached mode, the users' BlackBerry device shows the received icon for all sent items.
In BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1 SP6 MR1 and later, this issue is resolved.
