Default error -- only one BES per domain

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all,

I followed the instructions for moving BES from one server to another but when I try to connect to the database (on SQL 2000) I get the following error.. Only one BEs can exist on a domain

I started by stopping the services on current BES, then disabling them. I then installed BES on new server and restarted as necessary. On restart I pointed the BES to the database on the SQL server and got the error.

I assume I'm missing a step somewhere in the very beginning, but I'm not sure where. Is there another step to make sure the current BES is stopped?

Thanks

When you are doing the cut over from one server to another you need to make sure thatn when you are in the BES install that you make sure you type the EXACT same BES name as your current server. I think this is the step you are missing. You should uninstall reboot and try the install again with the same BES server name.

Any idea why they do that? I find it annoying that the old server name is in my BES screen. When I asked about changing it, the RIM tech said it's just not worth it (and based on the fact I didn't pay for the call, I didn't pursue it).

Well it can be changed but you need a new SRP/Auth key, and another server to isntall BES on.

Then you just move your users over and then shut down the old server.

It is never a bad thing having an extra BES SRP and Auth key hanging around. It has got me out of a Pinch a while back.

So you ended up completing the cut over and getting connected to the database? Also, you aren't by chance using BlackBerry Professional are you?

Thanks for the tip and don't I feel dumb. I guess if I'd have paid more attention during the install I might have saved myself alot of trouble.

I know it says it in the instructions but I guess I just totally spaced it during the install and never even considered it when trying to troubleshoot. You just saved me a weekend full of headaches so I'll drink one for you tonight.

Nah, we run the mail through Postini before it even hits the front door. Spam has been reduced by at least 85%. But they sure are happy to be able to check their emails via bb even though they're setting right at their desk working on the pc.

Thanks again,
Dave
