Default I upgraded, now a problem.

Please Login to Remove!

the other day i decided to upgrade my 8300 to 4.5
The upgrade went fine, followed the sticky and all was smooth. I've upgraded the curve a few times so i knew what i was doing.

Curve comes back up and the theme comes back up, I'm on AT&T and i like to use the Verizon theme. but every Icon was on the main screen. Fine, i figure that the theme just reverts to the default layout on such a big upgrade. so no big deal.
I spend the next 20+ minutes moving icons around and cleaning up the theme and making it look how i like it. First thing i notice, I only have 1 folder icon. Purple. i lost all the different folder icons you can choose from when making a new folder.

So i can deal with that, not a big deal. but...

After going through the installed programs and such, i see that i don't have a need for a few of the programs i installed. some were trial ones i don't use.
So i uninstalled them through the desktop manager like normal.

Curve comes back up. EXACTLY like it was after the upgrade... EVERY icon back on the main screen. it didn't save any setting that i had made. another 20+ min cleaning up the theme.

all i did was uninstall a 3rd party game...

last night. I get a message on my screen saying that there is an update to 3 programs. can't remember all 3 names, but "basque" was something listed. No idea what that is. and again, Curve comes back up and not one setting saved.

this is getting very annoying.

Please tell me there is a checkbox or something i missed somewhere so that i can save the theme's settings.

in moving all the icons around, i see 2 other programs i never use... now i'm afraid if i uninstall them, i'll have to redo the entire theme again...

1. Your OS 4.5 version likely only included the one folder icon, several of the 4.5 releases did not include the customizable icons, which is noted in many of the OS upgrade threads here on BBF.

2. Ignore or cancel the Basque update.

Correct.

You need to delete the .cod's that have ".eu" in them. It's trying to install Basque language stuff. If you delete those .cod files it will quit.

Ok, I have ths same problem. Updated to 4.5.055 about 3 days ago and this has happened twice now. Using BB Dimension Today Plus theme and after spending some time moving and hiding and sorting out icons, it'll just randomly reset back to the default (the way it came right after the OS upgrade).

This never happened with 4.2 and I do not have basque installed anywhere.

Any ideas?

Hi JSanders,

I am also getting tired of the desktop mgr prompting me to install that language. It only happens on my work laptop though and not my personal one.

I like to just confirm the file path that contains the .cods (w/ ".eu") that should be deleted.

On your PC, go to:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\**Your OS installed file version**\Java

Look for:
  • net_rim_runtime_resource__eu.cod
  • net_rim_bb_resource__eu.cod
  • net_rim_bb_diagnostic_resource__eu.cod
  • net_rim_bb_elt_resource__eu.cod

Remove the .cod files listed above and update your device applications with Desktop Manager. It should ask you to remove net_rim_bb_diagnostic_resource__eu.cod. Remove it from your phone. You should be good after that.

ok, this is happening again.

I have been out of town, and thus away from ANY PC for 4 days.
sync'd up before i left, never got the Basque install thing.

I bring an old Motorola Phone with me when i go riding, if i break my BB while i crash in the woods... i'd be mad. Break the moto, as long as the Sim is ok, i don't care.

Swapped the sim and used the moto while out riding, get back to camp and swap to the BB. (yes, i get full coverage where i ride ) Next thing i know, EVERYTHING is reset again. just like before.
so it seems that a battery pull does this as well. I have not even plugged it in to any PC and still got the reset.

I did this exact same thing 3 weeks prior to upgrading to 4.5.0.55, and NEVER had the reset. where i was then i had zero coverage so the battery stayed out of the BB for 3 whole days before it was fired back up. and no reset...

8300 4.5.0.55

and as magpie asked, is there a way to add folder icons to the BB? like purchased or elsewhere? or are they only part of the OS and we have to wait for a new OS version?

The folder icons are not available in that OS release, they could be in another down the road.

JSanders, thanks a lot, it seems to have fixed my issue. I've had this for a while and it was starting to annoy me.

Ok.

Those instructions were to alleviate the nagging Basque language update.

The user is looking to keep all their icons from rearranging after any a rebooting the BB.

@SikEnCide, yes you would be ok to remove those foreign language cod files.
