Default Storm EXTREMELY SLOW in all functions

Please Login to Remove!

My storm has been dog dog dog slow in everything I try and do on it, even to type is a total hassle. When i click on a message (SMS or email) it takes 5+ seconds to open. Then I click the reply button, it takes 4 seconds to open. If i turn it from standard to landscape, it takes 4-5 seconds to convert and show the keyboard. This is so frustrating I'm ready to return it to the store and get my money back. i've updated to the latest firmware, and it was fast for a few hours then came to a crawl again. I don't know what to do and am wondering if anyone else is having this problem to?

So far i've limited all icons to one page, loaded the latest firmware (which I think I did correctly, if you could tell me how to check - I followeed the instructions for the sticky in this forum)

with no luck. please help before i throw this thing in the trash.

Update the OS:

You will love your Storm after that.

Have you deleted VZ Navigator? Some people have seen a huge improvement in the performance of their phone by nixing it. Also, check to see what your available memory is at. You might need to do a battery pull to clear things up as well - at least this has been my experience when my Storm starts lagging.

I'm currently loading the new OS. i dont see why i should need to delete VZnav, as part of the relatively decent parts of the phone I like to be able to use if when traveling.

We'll see how this works, I had loaded .95 before and it ran fine for a couple hours. it seems to get slow over time. Bat. pulls do not solve the issue.

thanks for advice I'll let you know how it goes!

You don't need to delete VZ Nav, it was just a suggestion as it's worked for other users on the forum. Hope the new OS helps.

I took my storm back. I did all the updates, changed the speed for typing and misc as stated here in this forum. The phone is horrible. I got my curve back and am now a happy camper. The phone was rushed out. Maybe in a year or 2 it will work. Didnt work at all. Push a button, nothin, push again nothing then very slow when it does connect.

It varies from phone to phone - my Storm works just fine, and so do many others, so it's a bit of a generalization to say that it's horrible. However, an equal amount are also troublesome. Sorry to hear that you got a bum unit.

So I am now on the latest update, and I will be taking it back tomorrow. Its even slower then before, and thats without any apps and right out of the box.I can't believe RIM actually released this to the public. Not ready what so ever. Companies tend to do this right before the black friday shopping rush. Completely ridiculous.

what are some other great touch phones out there besides the iphone and this?

Wait, misread the part about Black Friday - that makes sense now. However, note that .76 has also been taken down, so make of that what you will.

Did you ever have .75 on your phone, or did you make the jump from .65 to .76?

I'm pretty happy with 4.7.0.75. It could use a couple of minor improvements, but seems quite functional to me. I think I'm going to wait & see what people have to say about Bell's .76 release as well as if the VZW release will be the same .75 I've already got before upgrading to either.

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

There are no differences between the same version numbers. If you have .75 then you have .75. They would be the same. .76 is an improvement over .75. So I've been told, anyway.

Thanks for the heads up on the .75's being the same. I guess I'll do my homework on .76 today and decide if I want to upgrade. Hopefully we'll be getting more input on peoples experiences with .76 soon - there hasn't been much posted yet.

I am looking for some moral support as a BB newbie. Someone please tell me I won't destroy my phone by upgrading the O/S. Also, will I loose all my contacts?

1) You won't destroy your phone! It's an easy process, though I totally understand your worries. I was nervous the first time I upgraded the OS on my 8800.

2) Desktop Manager backs up all your contacts and messages (SMS, MMS, email) before installing the update. Afterwards, it will put them all back on your phone like they were never removed.

But, if you're really nervous about it, I'd suggest doing a backup beforehand - just in case. However, it should go just fine, and if it doesn't, that's what BBF is here for!

I deleted VZ Nav, loaded the new update, and modified the keyboard setting. It works great.
I think people need to give it a chance- as with the IPhone, there were the same bugs and now its loved by all.....

Exclamation Re: Dog Slow

I was at the Verizon store yesterday to complain, as usual, that whenever I make a minor change, my account gets all screwed up (i.e., changed my Curve for a Storm, and all of a sudden I'm being charged for tethering and the unlimited email package for $45 and they've changed me from BIS to BES, etc. etc.).

Anyhow, while I was there I asked the guy "has anyone else mentioned how slow the phone seems to be?" I noticed that my phone was acting as if it was left in the car in the winter....every button push was time delayed, whether it was an app button, or the keylock, or portrait/landscape change....it was slow!

The sales guy says yes, and proceeds to look at some email he received with a debug fix. He attempts to do it on my phone, but can't seem to figure it out. I asked him if he would forward me the email, so I could share it with my Storm owning sisters. He said sure, but never did, even after me reminding him. Wonder if he reconsidered and thought it would get him in trouble?

Either way, the associates have been issued a Debug email, and from what I could read over his shoulder, it involved clearing the event log, but even more than that. I saw something about pressing the number lock key, and then something else about the debug option....I'm sorry I didn't see more.

So if anyone out there knows about this email, he claims it fixes the cold-like slowness. Please share!

AB
