It seems so strange to me that bb videos are recorded in 3gp format. Wouldn't it be great if there was a way to change the default video recording format to a good old-fashioned mpg?

3gp is the standard for mobile devices. It has been the standard for years.

Actually it's 3gp format, which is the standard recording format used by most mobile devices. I thought it was Quicktime format, but it's just that Quicktime is the compatible player on a pc. Windows Media Player won't work with 3gp. I did my homework since posting this. Found some nice conversion software to turn them into mpg and can now edit and do whatever with the files.

Prism Video Converter from NCH Software. The free standard version does just about everything. There is a Plus version for sale, but you only need the free version to covert file formats. Handles just about every format known.

I had found a free convertor program as well. Sucks it has to be this way, but at least I can edit the video files now.

Windows Media player just needs to make and add a codec to their software to enable playback.
