it happened because its a brand new device with a lot of bugs. no one is going to be able to tell you exactly what happened and why.

Check to see what applications are running in the background. Not sure how to do that on a storm but on a non-touchscreen it's alt + Enter. I am guessing VZ Navigator is running.

E-
Press and hold the menu button. 5 apps will always appear:

Messenger
Phone
Home
Messages
Browser

Anything else is running (VZNav) will be displayed. If you select it and then close it by using the menu option and select close.

And you need to play a little nicer here.... You can choose which thread you wish to reply too and in this case should have refrained.

Have you updated your OS to at least .75? If not then your OS could certainly be a factor in the miserable operation you experienced. Many issues were addressed when this was released on 12/5/08.

This happened to me today also and it seemed to be the icon in the top right of the screen constantly changing between 3G, GSM, GPRS etc, i have trawled various other threads to see what solutions have been suggested and taken them into account. Would you say it is a good idea to update my OS as i have not done this since getting my BB. If so which version would anyone recommend?

If this continues to happen i may just have to resort to pulling the battery and hoping it will stop as the guy who started this thread said worked for him.

I noticed 2 things that really improved my battery life. Not sure if these were the culprit, but if not, it may be worth a try.

1) Changed my location to E911 only. Options->Advanced Options ->GPS

2) Deleted VZ Navigator - I'm not a big fan of paying extra $$$ for subscription apps. I just deleted VZ Nav. I noticed in some instances, the thing just running in the background when I didn't recall starting it up.

Other than that, I think dah1bby had the best advice w/ just watching what apps are running. I've been installing certain apps I think some might run in the background (I know the youtube app (which is nice by the way) was killing my battery too.

This little tid-bit of information may have saved me taking mine back to the dealer. I found out that I had quite a few things running in the background.

I would unplug my storm first thing in the morning and by lunch half of the battery was gone. I hope closing those apps and logging off msn messenger improves battery life drastically.

thanks dah1bby

if your reception is very low your rf will drain battery trying to find reception.
i live in a poor reception area and have to have my phone plugged in at all times

Yes! This happens to me all the time, when I'm inbetween coverage areas or indoors my battery drains super quick because the phone keeps searching for the best network and goes between 1x, 1XEV, and 1xev which I find VERY annoying...I'm guessing this has to do with an OS hole and I'm currently running .85 and no fix as of yet...so upping your OS might not help you here as upgrading mine only made it worse

Ima try this and see if it works...this might be a good idea to try out...but wonder if BB Maps GPS will still work with this feature switched off...

My battery seems to drain quite a bit, very quickly at that.I figured a "more powerful" blackberry plus my endless usage of the device ends in a quick dieing battery......lol

As for the Storm....I suggest we get a powerful battery. The one that comes with the mobile is not really compatible with the data connectivity.
