Default Curve and BBMaps

Please Login to Remove!

I bought my Curve sometime in July or August I think and was kind of disappointed with the whole GPS thing (I know, another Verizon GPS thread), however I keep reading online that they have unlocked it for the BBMaps. Well, I hunted all through my phone trying to find something to tell me this was true, but I go nothing. I went on BBMaps, but I don't have an option that says 'My Location'. I searched online and couldn't find anything either, do I need to upgrade to a newer version of BBMaps, or new software?

Also, I thought I'd give Verizon's help chat a try and ask them. The Rep told me that GPS has not been unlocked for BBMaps....interesting....

Anyways, could something give me some help? Thanks.

Click on "Find Location".

You should get another menu with the "Where I Am" option.

I do not know what to tell you now? Hopefully some one else will step in and get you on track?

This is what my menu looks like after clicking on Find Location...

That's exactly what I am missing. There's nothing about Enter Location for me. I'm in the process of hunting down the Verizon Chat link on their website.... I love how they hide it...

Are you using 4.5 OS? If not, you need to upgrade and install BB Maps again

If so, resend your service books.

I'm a newbie when it comes to OS... I have no idea what that stands for. And I don't know how to tell what I have... I think I have 4.3?

How do I upgrade?

Press the alt key...while pressing the alt key - press e a c e

Scroll down to App version and it will tell you what version Operating System you have installed.

If it were me and it were my phone I would update the OS.

Plus - the updated OS has several new features making the phone much more functional as a business tool.

And on Verizon, if you want to use the GPS without subscribing to VZ Navigator, you HAVE to upgrade to OS version 4.5 on your phone.

Ok so I upgraded to the OS version that was on Verizon's website, and I can use the GPS with the BBMaps now.

The GPS works with the BBMaps, but not GoogleMaps... But I think that Verizon still has blocked that so no big deal.

Just went and tested it, and it worked EXTREMELY well, so I must say that Verizon is now off my shit list. Congratulations to them.

I was using BBmaps and liked it quite a bit but after an OS upgrade and having lost their use on my AT&T network, I installed Google maps. The Google maps app automatically recognized and used my GPS feature and I really like those maps. The features on the maps are great and I am looking forward to trying out the "Street-view" tomorrow when I get out and about.

I just happen to live on a street with such fringe reception that I can barely make a phone call from my house. So I haven't had a chance to put them to the test yet but from what little I did see, I don't think I'm going to miss the BBmaps at all.

a) I envy you for having a carrier other than Verizon.
b) Googlemaps are amazing, and I wish I could use the GPS with it, but since I can't I'd rather not have it take up space.

Googlemaps kill BBMaps, but I have to take what I can get (with GPS)...

Stop taunting them -- they're lucky to have BB Maps for free.
