Default bb modem via bis?

hello, does anyone know or have tried using BB as a modem using a BIS plan?

I know how to set it up as a modem regularly and it works, but my carrier is charging me extra to use it and I have a BIS unlimited data plan on my BB curve.

how do i set it up to get data from my BIS plan instead of regular?

i tried sharkmodem but i cant get it to work...
bayalink looks good but maybe there is some other way?

I paired my 8330 with my Macbook over bluetooth. Setup the Modem Script as Sprint and the Model as PCS Vision. I set the number as #777 with no username or password. Connected and everything was up and running! I was unable to get this working over USB on BIS though...

I'm unfamiliar with your provider, but this is how it works in general.

1. Install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager (PC or Mac).
2. Attach your BlackBerry (USB or paired Bluetooth).
3. Create dialup connection with your BlackBerry as modem.
4. Connect.

That's really all there is to it. Are they charging you minutes or data?

they are charging per mb.

i do it just like how u said and it works! but im getting charged extra

Ah. Then, you are using it properly. You probably just need to modify your account for unlimited data access. Most providers will give it to you for around $20/month and some will allow you to make VoIP phone calls, allowing you to offset the costs.

They may not allow tethering without a fee.

yes, that sounds more like the problem i guess.

if there is only away i can setup modem and use my BIS data plan to get internet..

Hi there, Ixxx8217;m in Mexico at the moment and have the same problem, what I think is the problem in my side is that Ixxx8217;m not entering the right APN in the "Standard Modem Settings", so Ixxx8217;m getting billed per kb instead of going directly to the BIS, now I called my service provider customer care and they donxxx8217;t now squat about anything, they tell me that I have to call RIM another one told me I had to call my dial up Internet service provider, one of them was surprised when I asked him and said he didnxxx8217;t even know it could be done. It sucks to have to deal with poorly trained customer care reps.

same here! the customer service reps dont know anything at all. and its the exact problem i am facing. its using the regular internet service provided by the carrier instead of the blackberry BIS plan.
I also tried using diffrent APNs but no good.
