Default new bb curve owner questions

Please Login to Remove!

I've scanned the forum thinking my questions must be addressed somewhere but didn't see anything. Doing various searches on the BB PDF on the install disk didn't reveal anything either, so thought I would ask here. Several questions, having just gotten my Curve a couple days ago, having successfully convinced Sprint that the Instinct was all marketing hype and the promised functionality is just not there, nor is it coming:

* Is it possible to setup a specific ringtone for calls, SMS, and email? Basically, I want NO ringtone for email, vibrate for SMS and ringtone tunes for voice, but cannot figure out how to set these up separately?

* Can you setup different ringtones for folks in your contact list, other calls, or private/unpublished number calls? If so, how (although I did figure out how to setup a specific ringtone for folks in my contact list).

* Is there a QUICK way to turn everything to vibrate, like when I go into a meeting?

* What is the deal with that SMS message I get sporadically from Sprint "brew" with a bunch of gobbledegook?

Probably have other questions but want to get it into a state of useability asap.

Thanks!
Jon

This will help: How do I edit my notification tones (profiles)? - BlackBerryFAQ

Edit the contact (don't just view, make sure you are in Edit mode) then press the Menu button (left of trackball) and click Add Custom Ring Tone.

Not really...but you could set (one of) your convenience keys to the Profiles app (click on the Options icon, then Screen/Keyboard to edit the Convenience Key(s)

Not sure about that one... haven't had that issue.

2. How can I personalize my alerts from specific contacts? - BlackBerryFAQ

3. Just through your audio profiles.

4. No idea. No Sprint here.

Wirelessly posted (8130)

Yes yes, yes and don't know.

On number one click on your profiles icon and scroll down to advanced. You can then edit the normal profile to alert you however you want. As for number 3 again click on profiles and select vibrate mode. For number 2 if you go into your address book and open a given contact you can set a unique ringtone there.

Sorry number 4 I don't know.

wow thanks for all the help. looks like this is working. one more (for now):

suppose i have a web site where the url already contains my username/password and i want to create an icon on my "desktop" to click that icon and have it launch the browser to go directly to that website. Is that possible? If so, how?

Thanks again!

I believe you can hold down the "Q" button and it will switch your profile to Vibrate.

Nope, it tries to assign a speed dial button.

If you have dialing from the home screen (or a similar option, don't have my Curve handy to check) enabled you won't be able to use shortcuts as the phone will try to dial/search for contacts instead.

Using this, "F" toggles Audio Profiles...I'd never want to disable my dial from screen though!

As far as downloading the shortcut to launch an application or even downloading a new theme, is there a trick to that? I open the desktop manager, click add new app, it finds Pocket Express, I click browse, find the folder on my laptop where I have new themes, double click it, nothing seems to happen. I cannot even find the shortcut thingie when I browse here. What am I missing?

Thanks
Jon

i think the F and Q shortcuts you guys speak of vary based on which OS you're running. i'm on 4.5 and it's the speed dial function, and my 4.3 that i used to run was the same way
