Default Couple of questions, need Storm experts help please.

Please Login to Remove!

Please forgive if the following question has been asked before.

a) what is the "Level 1" under Alert/sound setting for?

b) I have also noticed that I can assign a different ring tone to a contact for incoming call, but, if I assing a different alert for message in a contact, then all the SMS alert changes to that no matter what I have set in active profiles. Am I doing something wrong?

a)Level 1 means important messages, pretty much.

b) That's right. The only reason why you change a certain persons message alert is because you want to hear something different than the profile default. So everytime that person sends you a message, that assigned tone will sound. That's the point of it. To have that person have a special tone.

Hope it helps!

That's what i thought it should be. For example, I have tone A for contact A, and tone B for normal profile. now, all the messages all use the tone A. kind of defeats the whole purpose here.

But the ring tone for incoming call works as supposed to, it rings distinctively as I set for contact A, the rest of ring with the tone in active profile.
Thanks.

hzhao,

I just tested this on my Storm and I am able to achieve your desired result. I get message-tone A for a specified contact and message-tone B for all others.

Are you sure you are setting the personalized message alert through the "Contacts" menu.
I.E.
Menu --> Contacts --> John Jenkins --> Edit --> Custom Ringtones/Alerts --> Messages

Then setting the tone you want and saving.

Then make sure that the tone you wish to have for all others is the Tone you have selected for the current "Sound Profile".

Good Luck

Hmm.

Just to clarify your problem...

You get the same alert regardless of who sends you an SMS?

Get into your sound profiles (press the icon on the first home screen w/ the background image to pull it up). This pulls up the profiles. If you swipe to the bottom, you should see 3 options - Set Ring Tones/Alerts; Set Contact Alerts; and Custom Profiles.

Open up the Contact Alerts - here's where you can set your custom alerts for each person (other than in the address book).

Make sure your custom contact is listed (and that they have the correct phone # - sometimes I end up w/ duplicate entries that have incorrect info due to Outlook sync and not keeping them both up to date). Check the Messages option to see which tone you have set.

Then back out and go into profiles again. This time check your settings for the active profile and make sure you don't have the same alert set... I've had it change sometimes and if they are both set the same, you'll hear the same thing. You can also hit "Try it".

You may also want to go in, change both alerts to something else, then back to what you want...

It probably seems like a lot of hassle, but if you want the custom tones it's worth it.

Are the messages you are recieving (the ones that end up playing tone A when you dont want them too) from numbers that are not in your phone book?

I have my main text tone A and a tone for my GF (tone B) and if my gf texts me, and the next text i get is from an unidentified number it plays tone A (my gf's ringtone) instead of tone B (my generic text tone)

Wirelessly posted (VZW Storm, ATT Bold)

I use the app alert matrix from when I was on my 8830.
It let's you over ride the sound profiles for each contact. Mail one tone sms etc..
I like it because it backs up to there server for when you change phones or have multiple phones like me.
It was worth the money for me.

That is exactly what has been happening to me.

For example, I have tone A for specific contact's message alert, and all the other messages are using active profile settings, tone B for this example.

When first SMS coming from someone other than the specific contact, i got the tone B. so far so good. Then, let's say I got a SMS from specific contact, it gave me tone A. Still good. But, after that, no mattter where the SMS is coming from, it only rings Tone A from this point forward......

I am start to think if this is a bug in version 4.7.0.75 which is what I have.

BTW, the phone portion of contact alert works fine.
