Exclamation FINALLY! New 3rd party HTML web browser(s)! ^_^

Please Login to Remove!

Good news! It is now FINALLY possible to get a 3rd party HTML web browser for your Blackberry again!

As we all know, REQWireless WebViewer is no longer available. For some still undisclosed reason, REQWireless punked out this summer, and pulled their product from the market. This left some Blackberry users (people that didn't have the official BB HTML Web Browser for whatever reason) with no option for real web browsing.

But now, 2 new 3rd party web browsers are available, at least 1 of which is compatible with the Blackberry! ^_^

The first one is Minuet, available at Handango.Com (click the link to visit the order page). This one brags about no go-between servers, which I assume means that your Blackberry itself must handle the processing to load the web pages. With that in mind, the more current your BB is, the better it'll work, since newer Blackberries have more processer power "under the hood".

The other one is PocketWeb. This one uses a proxy server, just like the web browser built-in to Danger's Hiptop (AKA T-Mobile's Sidekick), so that your device does NOT have to handle the processing of the web pages on its own. This is ideal for devices with weaker processors, but may cause some latency delays. I have not tested it with my Blackberry, but my best friend is using it on a Nextel i730 and it seems to work very well!

And the best thing about both of these is that they sell for at least HALF what WebViewer used to cost, so they're more affordable! ^_^

If you're in the market for a 3rd party HTML web browser, take a look at these.

P.S. Mods, this is a frequent enough question that I would humbly suggest making this topic a sticky, so those who need an aftermarket browser can find it easily.

Question

So, has anyone tried either of these yet?

At the present time, I don't need what would be, for me, a 4th browser (I have the Nextel Online WAP browser, the official BB HTML browser, and REQWireless WebViewer! ^_^), but I know that eventually, I'll upgrade my BB to an 8700 series model, and I have no clue if I'll be able to continue using WebViewer at that point. If I can't, I may have to try Minuet or PocketWeb in order to have a 2nd HTML browser (for those times when a particular site doesn't like the BB browser, natch! ).

Default Minuet V1.1 released

I'm pleased to announced the release of the latest version of the Minuet Browser for Blackberry. Minuet is a popular HTML web browser for standard web pages (not WAP), now upgraded with lots of new features in version 1.1 (e.g. full graphics and all thumbwheel navigation.)

It is available at TriPrince - Maker of Minuet Browser.

The link above was a straight copy from another post, and it doesn't work (my apologies.) Please use the following link to access info on Minuet:

The PocketWeb doesn't work on my 7230. It freezes up, even after reinstalling and using the registration key prior to any browsing. Until someone tells me what to do, the program has been deleted.

Hmmmm... It sounds like PocketWeb only works on regular cell phones, not on the

Oh well. At least Minuet is available.

I just don't dig it. I've bought apps for my BlackBerry before but I'd never consider buying a web broswer for my BlackBerry. Stuff like that should be built in to the package well enough to not require purchasing a third party browser!!! To be honest the browsers will never be all that so long as we're on GPRS only. When the 3G enabled BlackBerry's arrive and we can all surf at 360kbps it'll matter but until then is it all that important?!?!?

I am using Minuet on a Blackberry 7100g with Cincinnati Bell. The browser works very well with the latest version now available v1.1.2. The only issues I have are https support (may be operator error ) and it seems that when I use the Minuet browser,
I lose my connection to the Cinti Bell Wap browser and have to reboot (remove battery and SIM card) to regain WAP browser access. I am running v4.0.0.219 O/S.

Thanks!

I just downloaded the trial for minuet on my 7100i. It works as well if not a little faster than the nol browser but allows html. my only gripe is that it does not allow the you to hold the jog-wheel to go to link. you have to click the wheel twice. even the enter key won't shortcut. I will still probably keep it though.

Well I managed to get Minuet working (slightly), I don't have BES, it installed ok and first I tried loading the mobile.blackberry.com site which loaded great. However it won't let me load some pages that I can load on the normal wap browser (eg my banks home page) admittedly I can't log in on the normal wap browser but at least it loads all I get on Minuet is Sorry the page can not be found, is this due to it being a demo, a problem with the software or the fact I'm not on BES?

The first site I tried was this the full version of blackberryforums. For some reason it will not allow me to log in. When I click to login, it comes up with a screen for the user and pass, but only lets you type a username...there is no password field.

Tried it on a few other forums with the same results...it has since been deleted.

Minuet is kind of slow but still works since I just lost my Webviewer because of a bad backup. :(
