Good news! It is now FINALLY possible to get a 3rd party HTML web browser for your Blackberry again!
As we all know, REQWireless WebViewer is no longer available. For some still undisclosed reason, REQWireless punked out this summer, and pulled their product from the market. This left some Blackberry users (people that didn't have the official BB HTML Web Browser for whatever reason) with no option for real web browsing.
But now, 2 new 3rd party web browsers are available, at least 1 of which is compatible with the Blackberry! ^_^
The first one is
Minuet, available at Handango.Com (click the link to visit the order page). This one brags about no go-between servers, which I assume means that your Blackberry itself must handle the processing to load the web pages. With that in mind, the more current your BB is, the better it'll work, since newer Blackberries have more processer power "under the hood".
The other one is
PocketWeb. This one uses a proxy server, just like the web browser built-in to Danger's Hiptop (AKA T-Mobile's Sidekick), so that your device does NOT have to handle the processing of the web pages on its own. This is ideal for devices with weaker processors, but may cause some latency delays. I have not tested it with my Blackberry, but my best friend is using it on a Nextel i730 and it seems to work very well!
And the best thing about both of these is that they sell for at least HALF what WebViewer used to cost, so they're more affordable! ^_^
If you're in the market for a 3rd party HTML web browser, take a look at these.
P.S. Mods, this is a frequent enough question that I would humbly suggest making this topic a sticky, so those who need an aftermarket browser can find it easily.
