The Blackberry is connected to that mobile router via USB. The mobile router tether's to the Blackberry and share's the internet connection via Ethernet & WLAN. I realized the only thing that has to be set on the Cardlepoint is the APN which is isp.cingular in my case.

So the BB is acting as the modem to supply an internet connection to any system connected to the Mobile routers WiFi network. Correct?

Cool.....

The CradlePoint products do far more than create a tethered connection. They are fully functional (and in most cases very good) routers, packed into a small package.

Its one thing to share your connection, its an entirely different thing to be able to control it, restrict it, and not expose yourself and your data.

I got a cradlepoint phs300 to use with a Storm and have been trying to get it to also work with my Bold. Bold isn't listed as supported, but it isn't listed for the ctr500 either so I was hoping I could get it going...no luck. did you enter isp.cingular on the WLAN settings or the modem settings? And did you also have to enter a username/pw? Just want to make sure I tried everything before throwing in the towell. thx

I can't get mine to work either. I used both wap.cingular as the apn and isp.cingular.

I switch around on the command line
AT
AT+CGDCONT=1,IP,"(wap.cingular)"
ATDT*99#

to

AT
AT+CGDCONT=1,IP,"(isp.cingular)"
ATDT*99#

There's also an APN box on the bottom of the same page and neither work putting in isp.cingular or wap.cingular.

Does the firmware matter on my Bold? I have 4.6.266.

Keep in mind that "unauthorized tethering" is against the carrier's policy unless you are on a tether plan. it may be free, but you are still at a risk for getting charged per kb.

just a friendly reminder

Mine has an error in the WAN Settings under Status Tab:

Network Status: Error, Password/PIN not correct.

I put CINGULAR1, all in capital. Usually it works. With APN wap.cingular.

Should I try to put the Username under Basic Tab under WAN? Which is [email address] all in capitalized.

I have tethering subscribed.

Got it working.

No Command Needed under the Modem Tabs, just password and apn on the bottom wap.cingular
WAN Setting under Basic Tab has no username, just password CINGULAR1

Unplug your Bold and replug in 10 seconds and voila.

I also went into Settings\Options\Security Options\Application Permissions and Edit the permissions for:
  • Blackberry 4.6 Core Applications
  • Blackberry MDS Runtime
  • Blackberry MDS Default Launcher

and set the Connections tree to Allow (Allow all Connections).

Finally, when connecting the Blackberry 9000 to the CTR-500, I noticed it does not matter wether you allow Mass Storage Mode. Yes & No yield the same result.

With all these settings, I am able to connect successfully -

The next step will involve testing this WITH A BES & IT POLICY.
