I need detailed instructions on how to use modem on blackberry 8700g with my laptop. It works on my friends laptop but I do not have any blackberry software on my laptop, and cannot get it to work. Any ideas?

For starters, you need to install the DM to your laptop which includes device manager and the necessary drivers for tethering your BB. Once you do that go here to configure your BB as a modem.

Pick a version of DM, I'd recommend 4.7
Download it
Install it by click on the file you downloaded.
