Default Blank (Black) Blackberry Screen on 8100

Please Login to Remove!

The screen on my phone has been completely black since last night, even when turned on, with no apparent trauma (falls, etc.), water damage, or other harm done to it in recent memory (and no software changes, either!). The red light still flashes and I still get the tones for text message, e-mail, etc. In fact, much like this: blackberryforums.com/general-8100-series-discussion-pearl/162525-8110-no-screen.html (sorry, cant post links, yet). I had someone call my phone, I could hear it ring, but when I pressed talk, the ringing stopped for a second, then resumed, without connecting the call. My alarm on my phone went off this morning at the correct time and I could use the trackball to turn it off (and hit the snooze button, which I did blindly, and by accident, about 5 times). I have tried calling my voicemail by holding down the '1' key, but to no avail.

Here is the sequence of events, as they transpired last night and today:

1) Last night, I checked my phone (it was fine), got in my car, and put the phone on the seat next to me.
2) Arrived at my destination (after about 1/2 hour of driving), checked my phone, and the screen was, as best as I can describe it, scrambled (gray, white, and blue vertical lines).
3) Turned the phone off successfully, using the standard shutdown (hold down end call).
4) Turned the phone back on, but the screen did not turn on (remained black).
5) Removed the battery and put it back in (several times). Red light went on each time briefly as battery touched the contacts, but no other positive results.
6) Plugged in my phone and went to sleep.
7) Awoke to my alarm, as described above.
8) I just reinstalled the OS, per these instructions: blackberryforums.com/general-8100-series-discussion-pearl/170499-latest-os-8100-4-5-0-174-4-5-0-124-english-east-asian.html
9) The OS installation seems to have succeeded (but not succeeded in solving my problem), because I got audio (and red light) notification that I have received e-mails and texts.
10) I have yet to see my screen react to anything (not even a blank white screen when restarting during the OS reinstall).

Is it time to crack open the phone? If so, what am I looking for? I am a software engineer, and I am reasonably comfortable messing around with electronics (although my "engineering" skills are not very good. e.g, unless it is obvious, i.e, something unplugged, I probably won't figure out the problem on my own by looking at the internals). Please advise.

PS - Sorry for the essay of a post, but I was trying to be as specific as possible. Let me know if any additional information will be relevant.

Wirelessly posted (overwhelmingly stressed)

Sounds like the connection between the lcd and pcb has come loose. This is a very easy fix. There are disassembly instructions in the FAQ section!

If that doesn't work you might ned a new lcd screen altogether

www.horizonwirelessonline.com is a great source for parts

I have attached a picture of the motherboard with LCD attached and a closeup of the connector to the LCD. Does anyone see anything visibly wrong? What should I try next?

Thanks.

UPDATE:

I fixed the phone by opening it up, removing the LCD and putting it back in. Must have been a loose connection, because when I started it up again, it worked! Voila!
