Default Brand new Bold, ATT $30 media plan...data works?

Please Login to Remove!

All,
Just popped my SIM in my new BB Bold. My plan does not include any Blackberry data services, only the $30 unlimited data/txt/mms plan (was using a Nokia E71 prior).

I opened my browser and...it works fine. Also, sms/mms works too.

Someone explain why I'd need to BB plan (I understand email through BB's servers would then work).

I just thought data would not work at all without a BB plan.

Thanks guys...haven't owned a BB in a loong time, should have read the FAQ.

On a related note, is the data on a non-BB plan slower or something? Because my data on 3G is crawling slow. Would it be faster somehow if I switch to a BB plan?

Should be about the same - average 400-900 kbps. Speed depends on a lot of variables too.

Yes, it would be faster. Your plan requires you to go through a proxy server whilst the BB plan does not.

Even then, your E71 inet is more than likey faster than the BB browser. The browser that comes with the bold sucks. Time way too long to process scrips etc... It will be done loading a page but still sit there on running scrips for 15 more seconds.
