Default Tethered modem speed - cannot get higher than 115.2k

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I followed the instructions in the Modem FAQ and am able to connect to the internet via USB at 115.2kbps. However the Bold is 3g, but I am unable to connect at 3g speeds...am I missing something? Is the initializing string different? I am AT&T in the USA.

Thanks.

Update: I have only tried this using a dial up networking connection in Windows XP. I also tried it via a Bluetooth dial up networking connection, with the same result (115.2kbps connection). I am stumped!! Any help would be appreciated!

Are you in a 3G area? Does the device say "3G" ?

115 kb indicates EDGE speeds.

Yes I am in full 3G coverage, and yet still connect only at 115.2. Very odd....

Thoughts? Thanks

Speed depends on several factors, the connection your distance tot he tower, tower congestion, the device itself, etc.

Maybe a tower issue? Is this just happening in one location with one PC or is it an all the time occurrence.

Also keep in mind, most of the speed testers are not that great or reliable for cell services, IMHO.

I think the issue resolved itself....found a dial up networking connection called 3G and used that. Speed is noticeably better!

I installed the AT&T Connection Manager, and I think it created a connection in my dial up networking folder called 3G. I went into the Properties there and changed the dial number and modem used (per the directions in the Blackberry Modem FAQ) just like I had setup my original dial up networking connection. When I use it to connect it seems much faster than the 115.2k I was getting before

Are you running a speed test, or are you just going off of what it says when you get connected? Mine says connected at 115.2K, but when I run a speed test, I get from 1.5M to 2.2M.

Mine says the same speed for my Bold as my wife's Curve yet I'm sure that mine is faster. How do you run the speed test?
