I've had my BB Storm for 9 days now and am having a terrible time downloading any apps on it. How do I get more Application Memory? It tells me to delete languages but the only one I have is English. I have tons of other memory but I need step by step instructions on how to get more app memory. Thanks!!

I think the app memory on the device is all you get. RIM didn't use their head when they developed the device to allow you to use the memory card to install apps and and stuff. I had to find a program from a third party developer to do that. I didn't download or buy the app though. I think it costs like 20 bucks and I am not ready to buy an app for that much until it gets a ton of good reviews. You only get so much device memory and it is sad that many developers make their programs so large, they take up space.

RIM did use their head. Applications don't go on anything but device memory for security reasons. There is only a certain amount of device memory and that's all you get for apps. There is NO 3rd party application that will allow you to load apps to the media card memory. The 3rd party apps only allow you to install the application to the device memory FROM the media card but the application still only installs to device memory.

I know this is an older thread but I have yet to hear a satisfactory explanation concerning the memory allocation on the Storm. The Storm has memory designated "Application Memory" and memory designated "Device Memory". The device memory never seems to change much and it seems to be used little. On my Storm the total space for "Device Memory" is 879.2 MB while the free space is 874.6 MB. The "Application Memory" is where the memory issues occur. Mine can be 24 MB and a few hours later be down to 3 or 4 MB even if I have nothing extra running in the background. Would be nice to see more of the "Device Memory" allocated to "Application Memory" if that is possible.

To clarify my comments a little. On the Storm there is "Device Memory" and "Application Memory". "Application Memory" is the built in memory of the device that the device can use for running the device and its applications. Its built-in to the device (thus why its commonly referred to as device memory) but is different than the memory actually labeled as "Device Memory". "Device Memory" is nothing more than a built-in media card type of memory. It can't be reallocated to be used as "Application Memory". Not all BB's have this extra built-in memory.

John, while I appreciate what your are saying in trying to educate people, there still despite what you say a desing flaw or shortcoming in the Storm by Blackberry whether by design or not, it's a flaw.
Hopefully they will either come out with some type of adjustment or in the Storm II will not make the same mistake of either putting too little Application memory space or devise some way to be able to move and operate applications from a memory card.
Kind of foolish on their part to set up an applications store to try to cash in on the device and the sale of downloads when the device has such limited space in the first place.
Before you go back and repeat all of your educational stuff, I have a very clear understanding of how the device is set up and supposed to operate and that setup is flawed.

Ummmm-I'm not really qualified here but I thought the device memory was where it stored pretty much everything and the application memory was where it runs stuff; one good reason to make sure you close all open apps so they don't hog space you need for other apps and one of the reasons a battery pull works,it clears up open apps and bloatware.
