Is there a way to select multiple messages/E-Mail's for deletion or must they be deleted individually?

If you hold you finger on one and then keep selecting others they will all be selected and then you can delete multiple messages at once

Highlight the date bar and then select "Delete Prior" will delete all from that date and prior dates.

Yes, this is exactly what I do.

You can select multiples, but only sequentially. Unfortunately you can't do a "ctrl-click" on only the ones you want and then delete.
