Or delete facebook from your device completely, then pull the battery. Then try the download again.

Don't bother, I still have v1.6 (Curve 8330) and I'm getting the same error since early yesterday. I think it's something else, not the app. But I'm getting sick of it, saying "Could not connect because a data service is not available" while everithing else works with data. I don't think contacting Sprint for this would resolve this...

Finally i reverted back to facebook v1.6 and it connected normally .. so i think that was a problem with the new version V1.7 .. i really want to try it

did anyone fine a workaround for this problem ?

as most people havent had an error (or we'd have had more threads about it) I dont believe the problem is 1.7
therefore no "workaround"

Can you please provide a link to 1.6.0.21? I can't find it. The one link I did find, said it failed download for a bad .zip file. I upgraded to 1.7 this afternoon OTA and like you all, get that stupid message. I wish STC would allow application access through BIS. Most apps don't work. Seems only messengers and FB (v1.6) only work. I mean, not even App World works with STC. Is there a reason why STC won't allow access properly through BIS?? The problem is, when you look at Service Status on the Connection page, its said "Not Connected" on the BIS line.

Has this been brought up to STC?

Thanks

I have BB8900 that I brought with me from the US, and its unlocked.

If it says Not connected next to BIS, you dont have data.
One of two things: you dont have a data plan (which you seem to)
or STC had data problems

I have 4 other people here where I live, we all have BB8900's, 3 of the 4 were bought in Saudi Arabia, and mine is from the US.

All 4 phones indicate that BIS is "not connected", however, BB MEssenger, Yahoo Messenger, AIM, MSN, and FB (v1.6), and the Jawal Browser are all operational.

Any 3rd party app, like App World, BB Maps, Operah Mini, etc etc are non operational and say you aren't connected.

Now, turn off cell network on the phone and use just Wifi (with non-censored internet through Orbit), all apps work (like app world), but still v1.7 still won't work.

I've had my BB since April here, and have always had this problem.

I'm pretty certain, it is down to the KSA Firewall that censors internet use.

*shrugs* I just want FB App 1.6 back, but it would be nice for all apps to work.
