Default Using a Blackberry as a standalone PDA (No phone or data service)

Please Login to Remove!

This is probably a really strange question, but I'm just looking for a good PDA. I don't have a cell phone, and I don't want one at this time. The latest from HP and Palm are several hundreds of dollars, but there are plenty of used Blackberry's available online from people who have upgraded to the "latest and greatest."

My questions is this: In what way will I be limited if I use a Blackberry (a Storm for example) as a standalone PDA with neither a voice nor a data plan?

Wirelessly posted (8820)

I think there may me better options for you functionally. The blackberry PDA functions are ok, but simple/basic. I don't know what options you may have with third-party apps, though maybe someone else will advise.

If you have an opportunity to obtain a second hand blackberry cheap and agood but simple calendar, address book, etc suits you, then you'll probably be happy.

The one thing I miss about mine is the palm desktop software. The calendar worked more intuitively than the outlook calendar and address book. The BB pda functions are very basic and I think you would be limited to whatever you can sync with on your pc.

You might want to look at an older palm. I just did a quick search on ebay and found a few.

You might be better served by an old (but reliable) Palm Pilot device. They're dirt-cheap and do all the PIM stuff.

Not sure exactly what you intend with this question. Anything that requires a data plan won't work is the basic answer. If you're using it as a standalone PDA that shouldn't matter. You'd sync and load/manage apps with the USB cable.
