Is it me or does having BES activated slow down my 9630 than if BES was not activated? The device would take just a little over 4 minutes to reboot, but since getting my work e-mail onto my device with Enterprise Activation my device feels a little more sluggish and now takes over 9 minutes to reboot! WTF?

Depends on the additional applications or IT security policy they loaded. Not sure what applications you loaded but my BB never took 4 minutes WITH the BES You might try to clear the memory or see how much is being used and left for use.

Your device never took 4 minutes with or without BES? Without BES my device took a little over 4 minutes... with it it's taking about 9+ minutes...

I'm hovering around 110MB of free memory after a reboot. I don't think there were any applications loaded as a result of BES activation, at least not from what I can see in the Applications List.

I did a search at Rim for anything related and find nothing. Unless you have application issues or a physical hardware problem, you might try reloading the OS back to factory and with a clean load see how long a reboot takes.
You might also jump into the forum for the 9600 hardware and see if anyone else has these issues.
I just rebooted my BB and it took about 2 minutes 21 seconds to come up to a full run mode. From a power on start it took about 15 seconds longer. It may be normal or not for this amount of time. Maybe others can post their times.

Dimmok, I tried a 8310 with only BIS on it and it took 23 seconds to power back up from a software power down. It took 72 seconds from a battery pull to be up full. My own BB has extra security software on it from my company so split the difference and you should see less than 2 minutes for a full power boot.

Based on this I would look at the App's you have installed

Very interesting... so from what I understand your work 8310 actually takes about 2x as long to get up from a reboot than an 8310 with just BIS. While I wasn't complaining about my device taking 4 minutes with just BIS to get up, it looks like once Enterprise Activation is enabled that times roughly double... which you've demonstrated with two exact models of BlackBerry... and I unfortunately demonstrated with a before/after. I'll throw this question in the 9600 forum and see if anyone can verify.

Your BES might have Content Protection turned.. that can really hinder the device.

You can check in the security options of the device.

Regardless not much you can do. Without deleting some 3rd party apps to make sure its not them.

but the newer device like the Tour/Storm do seem to take a lot longer to reboot compared to the older devices.

Hrmm, you know this content protection option might be the cause of my slowdowns! I'm pretty certain my 3rd party apps are okay, as they were not really causing any problems before BES was activated. Just so happens that when I was going through the BES activation process the IT guy told me to turn the content protection on. It looks like this option is not controlled by BES and I can turn it off... is there any way IT would know that I turned this off?

Looks like Content Protection was the culprit... I turned it off, did a battery pull (~8+ minutes) followed by a regular reboot. Reboot took about 4+ minutes!

Know did you company have that turned on for a reason?

I don't know what their reason for turning it on in the first place... is it true that it's something they can enforce on their side or is that user-controlled?

Content Protection, encrypts everything on your BlackBerry while it is locked, to further increase the security.

If your company really wanted it, I would suspect they would have enforced it..

But I would check just to be safe
